Re: Top Ten attack! A ranking prediction.

Nole is on his career best, only 4 steps from top ten and has nothing to defend on AU open and 5 tournaments so he is in very good position according to http://www.atptennis.com/5/en/player...yernumber=D643 , but they told his surname is pronounced jokovich and he is 177 cm short so I`m not sure...

Considering Baghdatis drew into the Federer section, too. Novak should pass him in the post-AO rankings.

Now that's some good news

Troicki - Djokovic - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Berankis
Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka
Retired but always loving Ferrero - Ancic - Kiefer

Re: Top Ten attack! A ranking prediction.

Well, Novak will briefly see a career best 13th in the rankings this Monday, before losing one spot to idle Andy Murray as Nole's Zagreb points are replaced with his next best result (25 points @ Vienna).

Not much action for the next two weeks, as only Ljubicic is playing going into the Davis Cup week.

Re: Top Ten attack! A ranking prediction.

Novak had a great press conference in Belgrade on Saturday, 27th January 2007:

Novak Djokovic: "I'm ready for Top 10!"

Serbian prodigy Novak Djokovic has tipped world number one Roger Federer to reign the men's ATP tour for a long time and easily retain his Australian Open title in Sunday's final against Chile's Fernando Gonzalez.

"I can't see Gonzalez winning the match although I am sure he will fight hard to give Federer a good run for his money," world number 13 Djokovic told a news conference in Belgrade on Saturday upon his return from Melbourne.

"Federer is virtually invincible and I think he will rule men's tennis for years to come, it will take a monumental effort to depose him," said Djokovic, who was brushed aside by the defending champion in straight sets in the fourth round.

"I think I would have stood a decent chance of progressing to the latter stages of the tournament if I had been drawn against anyone else.

"Federer is too strong and too quick for everyone, he has mastered every shot in tennis to perfection. We have to remind ourselves when we play against him that he too is only human."

Djokovic was reasonably happy with his performances in the tournament and said he was looking forward to a season in which he expects to break into the top 10.

"That's my basic goal this season. I have improved over the past two years but I have to keep working hard to compete with the world's best players at this level.

"I am also hopeful that Serbia can break into the Davis Cup world group this season. I will definitely play for my country in the competition and I think we have a very good chance."

Re: Top Ten attack! A ranking prediction.

So, he is officially No13. Congrats Nole.

On the race list he is No7 (with a couple of players), so we should follow this list to see does Nole have chances for Shanghai...

Smart strategy by Novak. If he continues to get under Federer's skin, he will continue to get straight setted by Fed. His best chance is to start admiring Fed in the media.

Re: Top Ten attack! A ranking prediction.

Novak will overtake Murray this week if either of the following happen:

1--Murray fails to win the title in San Jose
OR
2--Novak makes the SF in Marseille

In other news this week...

--Berdych's withdrawl from Marseille moves the "finish line" up three weeks, to just after Hamburg.

--I originall predicted Novak to make the final, but I didn't predict any points for Rotterdam, so a good result in either tournament would be acceptable.
