Subscribing!
If I have time tomorrow, I'll post some interviews of him and the some pics, especially from his NDF Charity Night in Melbourne!

Good luck for your thread SP000! :smooch:

Re: Novak Down Under***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

I'm pretty nervous about his opening match. But he's been giving too much stress lately, so I wont put too much heart watching his progress in the tournament (I'll still watch his match time to time though). Verdasco seems to be getting all the helps he needs. I heard he even practiced with Sir Andy Murray on RLA :hysteric:

Anyway, I check Novak's instagram lately. He seems very peaceful off court though. That picture of him in the botanical garden is just too cute

Silly me, granted that I don't hang around much lately in GM but for some reason I thought Nolandy practiced together not Verdasco and Andy, totally misread that :haha: .

I am a bit nervous too but as long as Novak takes it seriously from R1 (he tends to sleepwalk a bit through the first few rounds) he'll be fine also I do think Nando is too much of a headcase to pull this off (this isn't DelPo who truly was a draw from hell at the OG) especially in BO5, he hasn't done much at slams lately and all his wins over Novak have come on clay apart from their USO 2005 clash.

First one down  , unfortunately couldn't watch, only followed it through LiveScore and Live commentary which I really hate because it makes me nervous not knowing what is actually happening and I am pretty sure I haven't caught a thing at class because of it  .

He's looking strong again, I still believe he is the favourite.

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

The first set was sublime from Novak. A very appropriate entrée
The second set was thrilling. The tie break was a very fulfilling main course
The third set was relaxing. A very soft dessert to end the experience.

I watched the match yesterday and again today: I am very happy with Novak's form. He looked focused and in great shape. All his shots were there: DTL, inside-out, drop-shot... I am feeling very happy. Novak seems to be enjoying himself again.

Istomin is next. Conditions will be cooler. I can't wait. :)

At work so i couldnt watch the match. Catch a glimpse of it via TV at work but I'm kinda glad i didnt watch the match.

I have to be honest I'm really sad with the result. Just when I think Novak is getting his mojo back... I cant believe he lost in R2 of his best and favorite slam...

Being #1 again now seems like a far away dream, and i truly have lost my trust on him winning a Slam again. But even if this really happens, I'll still cheer for him. I used to said it so many times, but now that things looking bleaker and bleaker, i kind of get a reality slap. He had given me so much joy watching tennis, I'll support him when he is at his lowest.

Truly a sad day for me as a big fan. This will hurt for a while (maybe it's the best I avoid GM at the moment)

:awww: Don't be sad  , if you feel sad just remember all the wonderful moments Novak gave us here in AO and elswhere. I have noticed that his defeats don't pain me anymore(apart from that first 5 minutes right after the match) since RG .

Also I believe I won't be opening any new threads guys. USO, AO and Paris/WTF threads all failed , it seems I used all my luck and magic for RG  .

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

Commiserations guys.
Didn't see this at all after the 3rd set was finished, but it was really a very consistent and level headed performance from Istomin to come back and steal it. Novak could have definitely been more aggressive off the ground to pressure Istomin, but seemed to do enough to stay afloat. The 4th set was where it really fell apart. I felt he dodged a huge bullet saving those SPs in the second and then again in the 4th. Istomin seemed really out of it coming into the 4th. I guess this is where even champions can't lose focus for even a moment or let their intensity down but Istomin sure took it to him as if he had nothing to lose and deserved the gutsy win.

A difficult loss in any case, but there are still 3 more slams for him to think about this year.

 Well at least now you can cheer on your other favourite who has been waiting for this moment an awfully long time (not if my fav can help it, of course)

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

@Sportsperson000  yeah i know. I'll never forget how happy I was when he finally won RG and hold the four grandslams at the same time. A moment to cherish forever

As for now i think it's a mixed up feeling: the sense that the end is nigh for Novak and the feeling of being abandoned by old-time Novak fans who outgrew of MTF, I guess. It's a pretty sad feeling. I thank you for your effort to keep this subforum afloat, I'm so glad that you and every other frequent posters are still around. It's a tough road ahead for Nolefam from now on, I'll try to enjoy the ride while I still can

That's the way to go , he has had such an outstanding career that anything he wins now is a cherry on top, I was never one of those people who wanted him to crush Federer's records or insisted that he'll win a CYGS (I simply think it's impossible to do in this day and age even though he ended up winning a non calendar one), my biggest wish has always been to reach double digits in GS and career slam.

I noticed that this subforum used to be much much bigger with quite a few users who don't post here anymore (like Beijing thread had 50 pages in 2013  ), I wish I would have known about MTF/TF (also I am pretty sure I have seen you in Garbi's subforum on TF, let's cheer she wins over Sevastova too :cheerleader: ) existence before 2015  . Now we are lucky if we get to 15 pages with slam threads. Given that this one ended at page 1 and there isn't more than 5-10 of us posting here maybe we could use it for Miami/ IW double too (he isn't playing Dubai this year right? ) or for 2017 season in general (with separate threads for slams), would this be something you guys would agree with ? Just an idea, don't want anyone to feel like I want to impose anything :) .

Guys I haven't abandoned you all. I promise to swing by here more often. :) I'm so sad about today. I remember saying once Nole wins RG, I don't care if he doesn't win a thing afterwards.. didn't mean it of course, but now wondering if my powers are too great perhaps (sad joke). Just want him happy and focused. Hugs to all of my Nolefam, we'll always be there for our boy.

The guy is finished mentally..Unfortunately that's the case..With his talent he could have been king of 18 but now he would struggle even to be 13..He was always an emotionally up and down type of person..His chanelized his emotions in a right way after years of being second fiddle to Fedal and got to the point where he is now..Then Rg16 came, the Media built it up as a Final Frontier for Novak and unfortunately Novak bought it.

He won it and it lulled him a level down, and unfortunately that's all it takes at the Top level..

For his sake,I want him to tone down his off field activities like his foundation and keep a low profile in the Media about it..It just puts him off focus..It definitely does..Even this year I noticed in a big way about his A night with Novak in Melbourne..

Ultimately its upto him if he wants to be remembered for project 18 or an entertainer

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

Any inside story about what the fuck has happened to him?
I tried to find some yesterday without any result. I dont think anything will come up on the surface. If you read twitter, some mentioned his diet, his relationship with Jelena, his shennanigans with Pepe, but after all it's rumor. Normally the serbian posters have "inside news" circulating in their media, but since they dont post that often now, we basically at the mercy of mainstream media

And hey Shinoj, dont get too upset with Novak. I know maybe he didnt give his best, but I think he is still the same Novak we fell in love to :)

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

Hello, nolefam.

I hadn't realised that I didn't post anything here. I've been on Twitter mainly.

Sad, sad loss, but not entirely unexpected.

I think Novak needs to sort things out and, as Boris said, remember what it was that made him the best...if that's what he wants. He can go back to the diet that worked so well for him, because i think that it's his lack of food that has made him lose a tiny fraction of his speed, power and stamina, and that makes all the difference. His recovery time is also slower with less nutrition for the muscles. So he didn't recover from his Verdasco match on time.

Just remember Doha and the Australian Open last year: he destroyed Rafa, Roger and Andy. He was sitting on top of the world. Then he went drastic on his diet and the crankiness started in a few months. It was not immediate, but it was there, gradual, obvious to us at first...to everybody now.

Having said that, his change of diet is just a symptom of his quest for something else. I think it's a road that he has to travel alone and we can only wait and support him.

Speaking for myself, I couldn't be a happier fan. He achieved much more than I ever thought he would. He gave us so many moments. He single handedly put an end to Fedal, he gave us so many menorable matches aginst his main rivals, he held the 4 GS at the same time, first time I ever so that...I could go on and on. His peak is over, but what a ride it was. :inlove:

I will support him for ever.

And now, I am enjoying the Australian Open: no stress, no getting up at 2am, lots of my guys and girls still alive. I can't complain. :)

I hope you're not suffering too much. We were lucky to see our falcon in full flight for many years. No other player has dominated like he did for 6 years. It has been a privilege to be his fan.

And we wil probably see him come back for a last stint. It depends on what he wants.

Big kiss, my friends.

Re: Novak Down Under ***Australian Open 2017 cheering thread***

@Djoker, don't be too negative thinking :) there might be some "gloryhunters", but really, I believe most of the loyal fans of Novak here just happened to grow out of MTF, either they are occupied by life or they simple can no longer stand the cesspoll that is MTF. I wasnt part of the old posters, but I saw lots of genuine activities here in the forum during my lurking days, even after those bad losses in 2012-2014. Novak had his best year in 2015, but there are really few signs of life in his subforum during those days. The password gate really didnt help at all.
@Yolita  glad to see you back. you should post some info you get from twitter more. I dont use too much of twitter nowadays, but once in a while I read your timeline and some others as well.

Thank you. I wil try to come more often. Recently I only come to post picks for games.

Good points about gloryhunters. All the players forums are much less visited these days, not just Nole's. Social media has changed and more people are on Twitter and other places. Lee, for instance, who used to come here every day to comment Nole's matches or just chat, is on twitter, still supporting Nole, but with less time on her hands. I'm sure that's the case with many.

Nole's fanbase keeps growing. :)

Next scheduled appearance will be Davis Cup clash with Russia .

I hope they bring Rublev, would like to see their match  .
Me too. I have been following Rublev for 3 years now. He's part of my stable of youngsters.

It would be great to see a Djokovic-Rublev match. :inlove:

Great idea for Novak to play Davis Cup. He will feel the love, get nurtured.

Never posted that much even in the old days, but I remember mtf used to be a lot of fun.
Whatever fatigue Novak is suffering, it is purely mental, physically he's fine, even on this cult diet of his. He's surrounded by vultures milking him for everything and it's too much for one person to handle.
That's my honest opinion. He's not allowed to focus on tennis.

ESPN is running an ad saying that a Federer-Nada final is practically guaranteed. And that it's what "everybody wants".

I am hoping Milos takes the title. Such a nice. hard-working guy. Always improving.

Goffin and Dimitrov have absolutely no chance against Federer, who I think will beat Stan.

I'm not getting up at 2am to watch, though. I only get up at 2am for Novak. :inlove:

So it's gonna be one thread for the entire year?

Fedal and the Williams final everyone? :haha:
Tennis is in coma right now

No, I mean I don't know. I will change the title when IW comes around, just thought I'd leave it like that until Sunshine double since Novak currently isn't scheduled to play Dubai (just DC for February it seems) or you can open a new one if you want :) .

Never had a problem with Rafa, it was sad to see him so low on confidence so I'm glad he's back. Still shows nerves and twitches, but he's getting better.

Completely indifferent to Milos, but then again I never liked servebots.

Anyone but Fed is fine by me.
