Do we need a forum moderator?

I figured I would start a thread about this seperately because everyone's opinions will get lost in the chat thread.

So, since we've started to attract some unwanted characters in our forum, the time has come to start the debate about whether we want a forum moderator or not.

In the MTF FAQ there is some information about forum moderators. If you're unsure about what the qualifications of a forum moderator are, you should go check them out.

In order for us to get a moderator we would need to express to Amanda that we all want one. It would need to be a group decision. If only a few people want one and the majority don't, we would not get one.

Next, we would need to have an election where all the regular posters would come and vote for who they want. (I say regular posters because its not like Murray fans could come in and elect one of their own to be our forum moderator, it's just us.)

Do you guys think it's necessary at this point? There are a lot of forums who do not have forum moderators.

Express opinions in this thread.

Troicki - Djokovic - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Berankis
Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka
Retired but always loving Ferrero - Ancic - Kiefer

Re: Do we need a forum moderator?

Currently, it does not bother me much. If it gets worse, I'd have no problem having one. Pretty much whatever you guys think.

Re: Do we need a forum moderator?

If it helps keeps trolls away from the forum, then it's a good idea. I mean nothing wrong with a good debate, but trolling in a fan forum is poor form.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Do we need a forum moderator?

At the moment, I agree with hrbatyfan. We got our first troll and honestly he's not causing too much of a stink (although I was asleep during whatever happened yesterday).

If this starts to become much more of a regular occurence, then I would think one is necessary.

And for the record, if it is decided we want one, I am more than interested in being it. My qualifications being that I spend a lot of time here, and considering I just dished out my first bad rep today, I'm not quick to anger and would be fair when problems arose. That, and I'm nice.

Also a qualification is that for me, Novak is it. A lot of people here have other favorite players, but for me, no one comes before Novak. I am always searching out news and information about him and am qualified to take on a leadership role in a positive aspect as well.

Also a good point... having a moderator could work as a preventative measure to keep trolls away before it gets too bad.

Novak does seem to attract a lot of negative attention. Mostly it has been in GM, where it is fine, since everyone attracts negative attention in GM. But when they come to our own domain, that's really going too far.

Perhaps having one would be a good idea.

Re: Do we need a forum moderator?

I think for the time being, we need to push for evanzo being banned from our forum (is this possible) or just banned from the board. I normally don't like the idea of moderators but I think at times it's a necessary evil. If this keeps up, we should push for one. Right now, I just don't know. I can put up with one idiot troll for now. But, I have very little patience.

If it's possible for him just to be banned from our forum, that would be fabulous and would be a good solution for now

I'm going to do some research.

Okay I have no clue if it's possible, and if Deb were online I would ask her, but she's not.

Might be time to make use of the super-secret member's-only help forum!

You can have someone banned from your fan forum. Just report it to Neely or Jazz_Girl first or just go straight to Amanda or gravity. Just state what's been going on and the whole banning on forum trolls should be handled quickly.

I have never had to ban anyone from the Gaudio forum, though I have had to make some clear points, which people got the message soon enough.

In GM, well it's a free for all, but fan forums should be peaceful places.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I mean come on I have to deal with a player that has one major fanbase that can't handle him breathing.

Just make sure if a Forum Mod is elected, trying to get the balance between North Korea and fairness isn't easy.

Not a problem, it's just some people believe in hype too much, though the other problem is that some fans really help to make a player to be disliked even more.

Good luck with this anyway and I will nominate yourself for the job.
