I'm another Nole and Rafa [and Roger but not Murray] fan. But am only a recent Rafa convert.

I'm trying to decide if I want to scrumage around for a live stream or hold out to watch it on TV. Though knowing my impatience I will need to find a live stream. Please oh please someone stream it!!

Okay, since it's coming-out time here... Nole-Rafa fan here too Actually I support Spain in everything, but I have no problems with wishing them to lose this weekend I'm scared though

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

Friday
David Ferrer (ESP) v Novak Djokovic (SRB)
Rafael Nadal (ESP) v Janko Tipsarevic (SRB)
Saturday
Feliciano Lopez/Tommy Robredo (ESP) v Novak Djokovic/Nenad Zimonjic
Sunday
Rafael Nadal (ESP) v Novak Djokovic (SRB)
David Ferrer (ESP) v Janko Tipsarevic (SRB)

Am I the only one who thinks Victor can be a better pick than Nole in doubles?
If he plays doubles, I don't know how he can conserve his energy for Sunday.
Though they can change the draw before the match according to results of day1.

If Nole wins against Ferru (even with the bad clay-H2H ), Janko will proceed to loose from Rafa. That would make it 1-1, on Friday. Hopefully, if Robredo/Flo have no rhythm as a team, Nole/Ziki can pull it off, which would make it 2-1. Nole will loose to Rafa on Sunday, making it 2-2. And the decider? Ferru/Tipsy Which may just be 50-50

Above, is a stretch of the imagination, which requires perfect conditions, super-human Serbs, and diarrhea-ridden Spaniards. Don't be shocked if it doesn't happen But if it does, I called it

Well we've got our wish for the potential Sunday showdown (this presupposes that he beats David tomorrow and they win the doubles)

Don't know Victor's game well enough to comment but Nole's doubles is less than stellar on occasion

Certainly can't see Tipsy beating Ferrer on current form.

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

I think the Serbian captain is just being tactical putting Nole in the doubles. I think that if Nole can beat Ferrer on Fri, Victor will probably replace him to play doubles so as to give Nole time to rest for Sunday. However, if Ferrer beats Nole on Fri (it's possible, Ferrer leads Nole on clay), then maybe Nole will play doubles. Nole doesn't have a good record in doubles, but still he's the one who can control the ball better and he'll pump up to save the tie better. Nole and Zimonjic won the doubles tie against Russia, right?

Against Misha and Dima, who have absolutely no co-ordination as a team

Still, Nole chalked in to play doubles isn't set in stone. They can and might change it according to how Friday pans out.

Hope the first scenario comes true.

- “Nadal can’t have wanted this kind of surface. The court is concrete underneath the clay, it’s extremely hard and the ball bounces really high. The clay itself slows it down a bit, but the balls are also hard and quick. This tie will certainly not be a typical clay-court encounter,” Obradovic speaks his mind.

- “They have so far played out the pair of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco, but the latter is now injured, so there will be some changes. We have the standard lineup with Zimonjic and Djokovic, who have proved they fit together perfectly. However, if Novak has an exhausting encounter beforehand in the singles, we may opt to substitute him with either Tipsarevic or Troicki,” says Obradovic.
