Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

Sorry if I'm not allowing this lifeless equine a decent burial...

Nadal has nothing left to prove on clay. With his eye on the US Open to complete the real Grand Slam, he should and will play all the big and not-so-big hardcourt events to give himself the edge come September. Federer would do the same with clay except that he probably knows that still wouldn't be enough with Nadal in his way at FO, besides which, he's got #14 to worry about that is far more likely to come on grass or hard.

The Spaniard really has all the aces up his sleeve vis-a-vis the other guys. Except actual tennis talent, of course...

Thanks. Somehow I am not surprised More Bryan Brothers and Roddick on my screen instead of Nole and Janko again

And I'm too skeptical to want to mess up his schedule for it.

Anyway I expect he shows extraordinary and passionate performance in the toughest situation.
Impossible is Nothing.
I agree Hana. I'm not a huge DC fan at all and have always defended Roger when he put his own career ahead of DC in the past. These guys only have a short and finite career. and injury could end it at any time. So when they play as much as the top players, they must look after themselves imo.

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

It's a pity Serbia and Spain have to play first round.....I love both teams....
I think Spain will win easy...and I hope Nole won't lose too much to Nadal (and win the other tie)
I'm thinking along this line: Nole doesn't seem to have much hot passion/ mojo/ magic/ whatever recently. Being a big patriot, he could regain some of that by devoting to Serbia. I hope this can be the turning point of this season!

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

The official team nominations for all the world group ties were announced today. The Serbia-Spain tie page was updated.

Spain has never met Serbia in Davis Cup, although it did play against the former Yugoslavia on eight occasions, winning six.
Spain won its third Davis Cup title last year, defeating Argentina in the final.
After both of its previous victories, Spain lost in the opening round of the following year's competition.
Serbia played in the World Group for the first time last year, losing to Russia but then defeating Slovak Republic in the play-offs to retain its status.

A sign of hope? Should make absolutely no difference, but hey, Spain did win all of three titles in Olympic years, which some people pointed to as a sign it would win in 2008.

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

Thanks. I don't understand a word of what he's saying in the video but I could listen to him for hours So the google translator told me they couldn't practice outside because of rain and the atmosphere in the team is good? It does seem to translate Serbian better than Latvian though, but I still don't trust that thing

How is Troicki doing lately btw? Are they going to prefer him to play the singles in stead of Tipsy?

@ the blue shoes on the red clay. Although I think it would look better already if he would leave that green sweatband

Re: 2009 Davis Cup Cheering Thread: World Group First Round vs. Spain

Thanks for the article and interview Hana. Here are a couple of pics (sadly not of Nole - just Janko and Viktor) to put us in the DC mood Haven't got a clue who they will choose for the second singles' player yet I assume Janko, as Viktor isn't the best on clay But who knows?

...a blue-footed Booby bird

In honor of Mr Q, the original Boob.

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

No - there are many of us that feel the same Btw - was really surprised to see you voting Nole top of your Most Liked players list on GM. I aways thought that was Ernie? I'm very pleased though!

Such a lovely baby blue but suppose it could be worse...

I would like to apply for the job of Adidas colour coordinator: I
couldn't do worse than the current incumbent.

The booby

Rose, I'm a fan of Nole from before I even heard about Ernests but I love them both equally

Herdwick, you'd go for pink shoes? Kinky!
