Good luck to Nole in Beijing! Hope he enjoys the Olympics no matter how he does.

Does anyone know when he's going to Beijing? And also, is his coach going with him or is he just using whoever is heading Serbia's tennis team? (I don't know who that is I just realized) Does anyhone know if players can use both?

I have no idea how this tournament works, how many points are at stake and when it starts. Help anyone?

I honestly don't understand much of how the Olympics work either so I'm no help here.

Troicki - Djokovic - Del Potro - Kyrgios - Berankis
Cibulkova - Robson - Kirilenko - Azarenka
Retired but always loving Ferrero - Ancic - Kiefer

The draw is 64 I believe. I know the winner gets 400 points, but not sure about the rest. Tennis starts on the 10th, though Nole will get a first round bye. Here's the official website for tennis:
http://en.beijing2008.cn/sports/tennis/

I hope it's helpful since I haven't fully investigated it yet.

Thanks Kalista I really don't know so much about how the Olympics work either. Guess we can all learn together I have my own reservations about them being held in Beijing because of the political situation there, - but - having said that - the athetes are going to go there and be proud to represent their countries -it's not their fault where this particular Olympics is being held - so they need our support

Re: Going for the Gold in Beijing-- Novak at the Olympics!

Here's the ranking breakdown (I had to go find it because I knew I saw it somewhere and it was driving me nuts because I couldn't remember where!)

Men's ATP ranking points
Gold Medal - 400
Silver Medal - 280
Bronze Medal - 205
Loser 3rd/4th - 155
Quarterfinals - 100
Round of 16 - 50
Round of 32 - 25
1st Round - 5

The one thing that does suck about the Olympics is that players drop the points after a year with no chance to defend them or pick up points to replace them really. But, I guess everyone who participates accepts that.

Re: Going for the Gold in Beijing-- Novak at the Olympics!

Thanks again I will have a proper read of it all tomorrow - at the moment it's already past midnight here, and I'm still tired from staying up all night last night for the Nadal match So I'm off to bed now - thanks for your company in the tournament thread tonight
