Agreed. Nole Land is a fantastic safe haven.

However, the two Murray defeats have highlighted the fact that when someone manages to stays with Nole with depth and changes of pace he's at a total loss as to what to do. He is easily frustrated and his shots start misfiring alarmingly. Yesterday was clever by Andy and kudos is due there but it was hardly spectacular stuff. Also, Nole couldn't have played a third set and clearly looked like he didn't want to.

These points needs fixing and fast if he is to keep his ranking and go higher.

Would like to endorse the welcome back for Alex - you really have been missed so do come back soon.
true, what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. Murray exposed one of Nole's main weaknesses and now he's going to have to work on defending against players who play like that against him.

I know he's a patriotic guy but I really feel that Beijing's notoriously bad smog would only serve to harm Novak, who has enough health and breathing problems as it is. Seriously, he should wear a mask if he's going to be running around breathing in that poison air. Not only that but I wouldn't dare eat any of the food over there. Not unless he wants to get food poisoning or to test positive for steroids.

Bleh. I'm really down on the Olympics this year, just can't get excited about it. Not only that but tennis has had so many B-squad medalists over the years that I find it hard to believe that anybody ranked in the top ten will actually medal this year. But if they do, more power to them.

Novak winning a medal would be great but I'd rather see him win the USO, and he's not going to do that if he goes deep at the Olympics. JMO. I hope I'm not out of line saying so.
I kind of agree with you in that this year's Olympics has a weird feel even before it has started. You read about how some countries are providing their athletes with breathing masks and about how the media may be censored and it feels odd to be talking about the Olympics. The food thing especially is weird. The fact that China has to go to so much trouble to ensure that eating the food in the village won't result in athletes testing positive for doping is bizarre to me. I kinda wish the Olympic committee would have waited to give China a later Olympics. But, I'm trying to keep an open mind until the games actually begin. It just kind of makes me a little sad that there is already so much controversy surrounding the Olympics.

Re: Going for the Gold in Beijing-- Novak at the Olympics!

I do see exactly what you mean tangerine_dream, and Kalista. There are far too many negative things hanging around this Olympics (none of them really conected to sport), and it is sad. As i said earlier, I have really strong reservations about China having these Games because of the political situation there (censorship of Internet and media, human rights etc)............ But- having said that - the athletes still want to be there and want to represent their countries. Nole is really looking forward to the whole experience, and as we discussed yesterday, I'm sure it will do him good to be in that team environment, with good friends like Janko, Nenad (and Viktor )- so best we just cheer for him and hope for the best

Re: Going for the Gold in Beijing-- Novak at the Olympics!

It is hard to compare modern industrialized nations with developing ones. Besides just merely commenting on the fact that China is communist, let's not forget that it is still a third world country. The summer olympics have not been held in a developing country since the Mexico City games in 1968. (South Korea already by 1988 had living standards comaparable to the first world) China's problems are problems of a country that is rapidly industrializing and changing. Does China's environmental policies need to change? Yes. But let's not forget our own history lessons about how awful the pollution was in Britain and America during our own industrial periods. China does not have an equivalent to an FDA to ensure food quality, just as the United States did not start enforcing food production until the progressive era.

Beijing is not an ideal place to be holding athletics events, but the hope is that the Chinese's desire to have a successful games will force them to examine and change. China is playing catch up to the developed world. It starts with small things, like the attempt to curb locals' habit of spitting in public.

I personally think Jelena is a lot prettier than Murray's girlfriend

Anyway personally for me, I would rather Nole dig deep for USO than the Olympics. I don't have anything against this year's Olympics but all the controversy surrounding it has really killed the spirit of the Games for me. That said though, I think it's every athlete's dream to win a gold medal at the Olympics so meh I dunno

OK - I just read that Nole should be arriving in Beijing tomorrow. He seems to have left it a bit later than some of the other players - and went home for a few days first But he is on his way now. Only in Serbian I'm afraid

I'm surprised by how late he's getting there. That's not much time to get used to conditions. Nadal and Fed were both there at the beginning of the week. A lot of players, men and women, I've read about who are there are talking about how difficult it is to adjust, for no other reason than jetlag.
