Re: Guido Pella

This thread hasn't been posted in for a while, so now is the perfect time on for an update on Guido and the progression he has been making in his career. The last several months have been great for Guido. In November 2011, he made his first career challenger final, coming from qualifying and beating good players such as Dabul, Cervenak and Ramirez-Hidalgo in the MD before losing in the final to Viola.

This season, Guido successfully won his first challenger title in Salinas, coming from 1-6 3-5 down to win 1-6 7-5 6-3 in the final vs Lorenzi! He also made the QF of Santiago, coming from behind in each of his two wins before losing to Capdeville. All in all, Guido has a 10-4 record this season and has moved his ranking from #479 to his current provisional ranking of #206. He is showing a lot of potential for the future and developing quickly into a very high-level player.

He is playing in Baranquilla, Colombia this week and won his first round over Estrella 6-3 6-3. His second round match will be vs Vagnozzi on Thursday. GL to Guido in Colombia. If he makes the SF he will be in the top 200 for the first time so this is a huge opportunity for another breakthrough for him!

Re: Guido Pella

6-4 6-3 victory for Guido over Vagnozzi in the 2nd round of Baranquilla.

He plays qualifier Pedro Sousa for a place in the semis. Hopefully he can win and get into the top 200!

Re: Guido Pella

Guido lost 6-2 0-6 3-6. Unfortunately after the first set he made too many errors, and simply didn't play well enough to win the match.

Too bad, but he will still be at a career-high ranking this upcoming Monday.

Re: Guido Pella

Guido withdrew from San Luis Potosi, so his next tournament will be in Pereira the week after. Hopefully he gets back on the winning track in Colombia!

Re: Guido Pella

Guido lost in the second round in Pereira to Farah 4-6 6-7(14) after winning his R1 match vs Alejandro Gonzalez 7-6(4) 6-7(4) 6-4. Playing two Colombians in their home-country event was difficult as both fought very hard vs Guido. Unfortunately Guido made too many errors and got burned by Farah's BH in the match often.

His next tournament will be Santos next week. Hope for better fortunes in Brazil!

Re: Guido Pella

Guido is halfway to the biggest tournament win of his life, a place in the world's top one-hundred, and booking himself a spot at next year's Australian Open.

He takes the opening set from Adrian Ungur.

Re: Guido Pella

He did it.

So many things happening at once. Firstly, he's the challenger tour finals champion. Secondly, he's into the top one-hundred. Thirdly, he's going to play his first grand slam by direct acceptance (second in total).

Guido!
