Re: Marcelo "CH1NO" R1OS Thread!!!!!!

Rios also said

so far he didn't have any other invitations to play this year - he said there are too many players who want to play, and an 8 man draw makes it difficult. For him personally, coming all the way from Chile, doesn't make it worthwhile for one tournament. He says there needs to be better organisation and for all players to committ to at least 6 events. Perhaps Marcelo's comments will be taken on board. Age/ranking categories would be much better. And organisation needs to be sorted!

I think for me the most talented of all times was (Marcelo) Rios. Marat Safin, 2004

Re: Marcelo "CH1NO" R1OS Thread!!!!!!

Marcelo was in very good spirits - never seen him pose for so many pix, sign so many autographs, and generally smile and beng very pleasant to everyone - even me Seriously, Marcelo has never failed to sign for me - 8 out of 8 times, but I do know he can be, erm, 'difficult'. So good humoured was he, I took a risk and asked for a pic with him which he was more than happy to pose for!

Re: Marcelo "CH1NO" R1OS Thread!!!!!!

Marcelo said he has had no more invites to play any other seniors events this year - so far. Obviously, I think Marcelo's past reputation plays a part in it, but in Portugal, the media and the people at the tournament seem completely charmed by him.

And for me, he's still the best player I've ever seen! Senior event organisers take note - invite him!

Re: Marcelo "CH1NO" R1OS Thread!!!!!!

As for the final, yes, Goran had a bandaged knee, but it didn't affect hs serve - he served well all week, and tried to blase Marcelo off the court, which he did in his first few service games. But then Marcelo got into the groove and his returning was sublime - and he made Goran run, and run, and run.

Rios Captures Algarve Title To Jump To No. 1
Marcelo Rios moved to the top of the South African Airwars Rankings after capturing his second Vale do Lobo Grand Champions CGD title in three years

It wasn't the way that the Chilean would have wanted to win - his opponent Goran Ivanisevic retired with a left knee at the end of the first set at the BlackRock Tour of Champions event in Portugal.

Rios broke the formidable Ivanisevic serve to take the first set 6-4 when the Croat’s injury meant he was unable to continue.

“I hurt it a little bit against Sergi [Bruguera] on Wednesday, but after the match yesterday against Fernando [Meligeni], we finished at midnight and after that I took therapy for two hours, so maybe that was a mistake because when I woke up, I couldn’t move,” explained Ivanisevic. “Before the match, it was really painful. I played because it was the final, otherwise there’s no way I would play. I was just trying to hit winners, I couldn’t move, and against Marcelo, if you’re not 150% you’ve no chance, he’s too good a player to play against on one leg.”

Re: Marcelo "CH1NO" R1OS Thread!!!!!!

Había otro motivo para impedirle estrenar new look.

The King Roger Federer
