Re: Ruben Bemelmans
After qualifying for Wimbledon and losing to Benneteau in R1 in five sets, Ruben made four challenger QFs to end the season and finished #160 in the final rankings, a career-high. Overall his best result in 2011 was winning the Wolfsburg challenger in late February, his second career challenger title and the only tournament he got beyond the QF stage during the year.
Ruben has started 2012 out very strongly, with a 12-4 record thus far in challengers. He qualified and made the finals of the Heilbronn challenger, the SF of Noumea and Guadalajara and the QF of Kazan. He also successfully qualified into Indian Wells before losing to Matosevic in R1. He is provisionally ranked #145 and has reached a career-high #136 earlier in the year in January.
Ruben's next event will be Davis Cup next week for Belgium vs Great Britain in Glasgow. It will be a tough road tie but the Belgians are the favorites on paper. Ruben will likely be participating in the doubles rubber, so GL to him and the entire team. The winner of the tie will advance to the World Group playoff stage so a lot is on the line!
