I am not a constant watcher of PHM, but I never had the feeling that he has "fun" on court, sometimes satisfaction, yes, but he never gave me the feeling of enjoying what he is doing.
This is not a criticism, that's just how I see it. And it has nothing to do with winning either. Nadal does not give me that impression of pleasure on a court either.
I feel the way you approach tennis is based deep down in your character, and despite streaks of good humour, PHM does not seem a "sunny boy" type to me. Djokovic is, Tsonga, too, but if you go through the Top 20, not many players are.
Totally get where you're coming from. I know that most people don't see the "sunny" side when PHM is on court or anywhere! And people rarely stick around to see the smile... But I've spent the last 6 years following his career so I have a different view, I suppose. He only looks intense, but that doesn't always mean he's not enjoy what he's doing. I know that for a fact. Not that I know how he feels, I just know that you can enjoy something without having had to be little Mr.Sunshine all the time. You can look like this
and still be happy inside
I do approach tennis that way, as everyone who reads even a single post of mine might notice. And I know my posts pretty much revolve around me, but that's just how I want to see it. I want to think that PHM is enjoying what he's doing.
We sure define "sunny boy" differently
I like people with complex personality. I like to see underneath the surface. I like to think that there is a deeper meaning. But most importantly, I don't believe we can enjoy what we're doing all the time so the ones that always look so sunny are just pretentious to me.
