Andy on the dirty red stuff... 'Claycourt Season Thread'

Not such a good start for Andy in Monte Carlo after he injured his back playing dubs with Jamie:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6561587.stm

Bleh...hopefully he'll get better soon...

He really should take a rest now and get himself back in A1 condition...a repeat of last years injury plagued season would be horrible...
He lost to Gael Monfils in R1 at Roland Garros

Hmm...

I wonder if he has any idea how long this injury will keep him out...

Hopefully the spasms will just pass.. Fingers Crossed.

Re: Andy on the dirty red stuff... 'Claycourt Season Thread'

Not new news but..

Andy won't be playing Estoril due to back problems. He said "I started hitting again too soon to see if I'd be OK for Estoril. It looks like I'll have to miss it,". Obv its better if he misses it rather than rush back which would probably serve only to aggravate his injury.

As far as returning goes he said, "Rome and Hamburg are the big ones before the French Open and I want to make sure I'm ready for them."

Hopefully he will return fully fit, and actually do himself justice this year on clay.

Re: Andy on the dirty red stuff... 'Claycourt Season Thread'

It seems that we should all have a lot of confidence in Andy this clay season..

Mcenroe believes he can do well!!

He acknowledges that "This is his most vulnerable surface but I think he can be successful," and after his injury issues "It's going to be tough for him initially," but thinks that this year "His fitness levels have improved" and that he can "...win two, three, four rounds at the French. He certainly won't be easy to beat and he is capable of getting to the round of 16 or the quarters."

Only affirming what we already knew...

Its pretty obvious though that Andy's clay court aspirations this summer will depends almost independently on his fitness...which isn't exactly inspiring considering he managed to injure himself in his first set on clay [during a dubs match as well... ].

Fingers crossed I suppose...

Re: Andy on the dirty red stuff... 'Claycourt Season Thread'

Andy back this week...

He has drawn Gilles Simon in R1 at the Rome Masters... [article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6630699.stm ]

Obviously its hard to predict accurately with Andys body having the special ability to fall apart at any given moment, but...if that doesn't happen, then it should be a straight sets victory..

Post your predictions.... [including how long into the match Andy will ask to take a medical timeout... ]

the first and third sets were. in the second simon was put off by the weather and as all the crowd were there specifically to watch him play he thought he would entertain them for a bit longer.

face it though, the tartan twat sucks on the red dirt

Poor Andrew

I hope he can find his game again before the French Open and get back to 100 percent
