**The Sweet Smell of Fresh Cut Grass: Newport**

Since the clay season is over for Andy, I decided to start a new grass tournament cheering thread.

Here is a tentative schedule:

-Queen's Club (1st round loss to Janko Tipsarevic 6-7 6-3 2-6)
-Nottingham (Q/F loss to Andreas Seppi 6-7(4), 6-4, 1-6) Best result in a really long time
-Wimbledon (Round of 16 loss to Macos Baghdatis 3-6, 4-6, 6-7(2) )
- Newport, Rhode Island (Semifinal loss to Justin Gimelstob 1-6, 7-6)

Andy get your grass shoes on!

Andy really does need to repeat last years performance at the very least. His ranking depends on it!

Really looking forward to Queens and Wimbledon but i agree Duncan, he really needs to forget about last year and put it behind him.

Exactly. This time last year he really made his huge breakthrough so he has some big points to defend.

Let's think positively that he can do it!

Re: **The Sweet Smell of Fresh Cut Grass: Queen's Club 2006**

The draw isn't terrible. It could have been much, much worse.

Janko is tough, but I expect Andy to get through. Possible 2nd round match against Robby who is having a horrible 2006 so far. He can play on grass, but I think he's only won like 3 matches or something this season.

Go Andy

Re: **The Sweet Smell of Fresh Cut Grass: Queen's Club 2006**

Andy will win tomorrow easily.

Jarko is not tough at all and will be an easy win on grass if andy is even at 60%.

His Queen's draw is kind in my opinion, with the next round a kind one as well. Goldstein is rubbish and Ginepri whilst talented has had a miserable year. He would also be an ideal guy for Andy to play on grass. Once Andy got a feel for his serve, then it would be game over without a doubt.

I am looking at round 3 against Blake as an interesting match. Should be closer than last encounter. Will see how he performs in the early rounds first.

As for "defending" points this is frankly irrelevant chatter. Round 3 in an average ATP event is not big points for a start, wimby is a bit different admittedly but not a major issue. The thing to remember is Andy played very few ATP events after rhode island, and so there are plenty of free points to be had after wimby.

In any event, i predict Andy will reach at least the QF here at Queen's, with the same result at wimbledon very likely in my opinion. Grass is an excellent surface for Murray. His return prowess and use of slice can really slow things down and will force many unforced errors and easy points from even very good players. You saw that last year. Tactically Andy played superb on grass courts last year. Only fitness deprived him of defeats of both Johansson and Nalbandian.

Good Luck Andy, but Jarko will be easy easy peasy.

Best of luck to Andy vs Janko! Janko does have game but I dont know if it translates well to grass.

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

Re: **The Sweet Smell of Fresh Cut Grass: Queen's Club 2006**

The match was stopped today because of rain/lighting. Andy lost the first set 6-7(3), but was up in the 2nd set 5-2 before rain halted play.

I don't know what happened in that first set.
