~*The Australian Summer*~

Road to the Australian Open 2006.
Andy should play 1 Tournament before the Australian Open
He could play Sydney or Adelaide or if he feels good, both.

There are still 2 1/2 months till the Australian Open, not so long to go.

What do you think, will Andy come with a better build body there?
I hope so!

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

I think he might play a few Challenger events before the end of the year, but he will still have many weeks where he can go home and relax. Hopefully he takes this time to work on his fitness. It would be great if we saw him at the Aus Open physically stronger, and able to go the distance in tough matches.

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

Can it be worth him playing Challengers? That's not the sort of opponent he wants to be playing, and he's got his ranking into a comfortable zone for most ATP events now. Surely he should get some rest and then take stock and do some training to get into shape for Oz.

Hopefully he will take the next few weeks off to train and get his fitness really high. And then start 2006 off with a bang with a great start in Australia.

He is already entered in the Bratislava Challenger, starting the week after next, and only the 7th highest seed in it! However, I am hearing rumours that he may pull out of this Challenger and take the rest of the year off.

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

Actually now I am hearing/reading that Murray will return to Dunblane for the Winter and get ready for the Aus Open.

How far do you guys think he can get in the first Grand Slam of 06? He has no points to defend, so if he can make it to something like the 3rd or 4th round then he can make a big jump up the rankings.

I want him to be a top 50 player as soon as possible so that he can automatically qualify for the masters tournaments.

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

It's too early to say....

It's one of the very fisrt tournaments of the year, he can play crap or he can cause an upset and get to the QF perhaps

We'll see after 2-4 matches in 2006

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

With a ranking ~ 70, he'll get into Indian Wells and Miami, with their 96 draws, won't he? Lots of points available there too.

As he has so few points to defend, he must have a good chance of improving his ranking enough to get into the clay court Masters, if he keeps up his recent form.

Re: ~*The Australian Summer*~

Andy's heading to Auckland (yay!)

From the NZ Herald site...

Quote:
Tennis: Murray to play in Heineken (yay!)

08.11.05

It looks like Heineken Open tennis officials have secured another major draw card for January's tournament. Rising Scottish star Andy Murray has told British tennis media he will play in Auckland ahead of the Australian Open.

The full tournament field will be confirmed at the end of the month.

Murray's confirmation is a big boost to the tournament which has already secured four top 20 ranked players.

The 18-year-old has risen to 66 in the rankings in his first year on tour and is billed as the next great British hope.

As a child, he survived the Dunblane Massacre in 1996 where 16 people were shot dead at his primary school
