Andy, your country believes in you.

Of course we will probably get tonked by the Swiss, but who cares? I think our man will win one rubber at least.

It's the right tactical move. I'm so pleased Bates has had the balls to drop his number 1 player and not feel pressured to play him. We want Mackin to tire Federer as much as possible for his other two matches. If he could lose somehow in 4 or 5 I'd be elated only slightly less than if he were to win!
I hope the Andy vs Federer match still takes place as a live rubber!

Roddick, Goffin, Karlovic, Inglot, Isner

Alan to win in 5, Andy to win in 4 then Jeremy to pick Alan and Andy for the doubles and they win in straight sets

Scotland 3 Switzerland 0.. what a victory that would be!!

A man can only dream lol

Re: The Davis Cup thread

The Wawrinka match should give us an indication as to how Andy may fair on the clay next year. His results on clay in the first half of this year were very disappointing and in comparison Wawrinka has a couple of titles at Challenger level, plus a final at ATP level, so is a decent player on clay and should really be a strong favourite.

Still, I expect Andy will rise to the occasion. It could be a good match.

Re: The Davis Cup thread

Well Andy is considered to favour clay, and his grinding game is considered similar to Hewitt's, and Hewitt isn't amazing on the surface, which is baffling.

If he can beat Wawrinka, I will jump for joy, as it gives us real hope of winning, plus it gives the clueless haters (who often come out with false information to use as ammo) a bloody nose. Bring it on.

Re: The Davis Cup thread

Friday

For a start its on BBC2 from Noon to 6pm!

First the Federer triple bagel (?)

followed by

Wawrinka v Murray (experts say 100% even match! Ooooo.....)

Saturday

Again on BBC2 & BBC1 lunch time. (12 to 2pm ?)

Allegra & Federer v Murray & Rusedski

Sunday

On BBC but not enough airtime to show more than part of one match?

Federer vMurray!!! Phew!

Wawrinka v Mackin or Rusedski if GBR win both the Murray matches.

That's best info I've discovered so far. Any updates from anyone are wellcome!
