Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Meltdown in Melbourne!

Good 1st Rd win for Andy against Robin Haase in straight sets. I thought Andy lost a bit of focus in the 3rd Set, but basically he took care of business

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Meltdown in Melbourne!

Other than the 2nd serve, I found myself unable to think of anything else Andy could improve in the coming matches.

The 2nd serve is a massive liability though, and it's the one thing his upcoming opponents will be focusing on.

Forget modesty, Joao Sousa will be rolled over.

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Meltdown in Melbourne!

Second serve is better than it was, although he still plays too safe with it - hopefully Mr Lendl can cure this as he has done with the forehand, which is just a much better shot than it used to be. More oomph and more reliable at the same time.

Upping his average 1st serve speed by an extra 10mph+ would help, not to mention his 2nd serve but for a first round it was good. 77% 1st serves is excellent but he hit under 100mph on average. His percentage was really good during Brisbane so I wonder if this is something he'll continue with.

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Meltdown in Melbourne!

I was having a go at Andy last season for often trying too much with the first serve so I am happy with this, perhaps he is working on changing his second serve technique and is trying to protect that for now? Maybe a planned change over winter didn't go to plan. Retrospective Murray's forehand was great, backhand strong and movement excellant. Just the volleys needed a tad improvement. I am confident.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Could do a few more surprise ventures to the net. Give his opponent something extra to think about and less time to recover.

Andy is probably the best net player out there who hardly ever comes to the net unless forced to.

Awake yet?

Heh, not much to say about that one.. 9 for 9 at net was nice..

Anyone watch Berankis demolish Mayer? Knew he was aggressive, but his returning was tremendous. Andy can't take it easy against him.

Good going Andy except I thought he played that third Set a little on the causal side.

Didn't see him play so I can't say how he looked. Yet another youngish guy for Andy but I think he can win.

So straightforward it was almost boring - got the job done and got out of the heat without having to leave second gear. I'll take it.

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Meltdown in Melbourne!

That was exactly the kind of match I wanted to see with these conditions. Next round could get interesting going by how Berankis was playing today, so it's good he got this done without too much effort.

I support a lot of mugs.

Great result, Andy's form was almost as hot as the weather.

Yes that tight shirt really suits him doesn't he?

Wait, you were talking about his game weren't you? Whatever my point still stands.
