Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Showdown in Shanghai

About the Swiss champ, he really put the umpire in a tough position. Almost felt for him, because you could see he was uncomfortable stamping his authority against Federer, and telling him him how things will go down. Rarely see that sort of thing from Fed, but it's obvious he is more riled up when playing Andy than against almost anyone else.

Nole-Andy: Let the showdown commence

So someone recently informed me that my sig was empty. Said I needed a life affirming motivational quote by a positive role model like Einstein or Oscar Wilde...

Great tip to stay fit and mobile: If you run up and down the stairs two steps at a time at least once daily, there will never come a time when you can't do it. Until of course one day you mistime a step, collapse and break all your bones... That would suck. But you had a good run.

Those are healthy expectations, I think.

Yes, Shanghai and WTFs would be great. I wouldn't mind him winning Paris and Basel either.

I think we're getting addicted to Andy winning and want it to continue. And really can anyone blame us after what this man has put us through?

That's how it starts. Then you're demanding 3 slams in a year before you'll call it a good season and moaning cos your guy still hasn't won every title at least 6 times, like some Roger fans do.

A good chunk of Roger's fanbase are gloryhunters plain and simple. And the rest are greedy. It's not enough for Roger to win, but he must crush everyone in his path and as you said win the same title 90 times if possible.

We really need to be careful and not become like them.

It is. But we don't have to be like them. We can just do what we always do: Cheer for Andy win or lose.

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Showdown in Shanghai

To quote Mae, Close but no

Proud of Andy for the efforts that really should have won him the match in straights. He won't get the praise he deserves in GM, but he was great. The mental toughness of Djokovic is always impressive, so good for him.

Not all that disappointed though, Andy won when it mattered, and 5 match points here.. still the better player currently in my completely biased opinion

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Showdown in Shanghai

Great effort from Andy, couldn't quite get over the finish line today. He knew he needed it in two and I think that's why he was so tense in the end of the second set. He didn't have the legs in the third and Novak ran away with it rather. Opportunity missed? Maybe, but I feel like he made Djokovic really step up with some terrific play to win it in the end.

They'll try, but nobody can claim anything about windstorms/sandstorms/gods of wind helping Murray at USO when he did everything but drag himself over the line today. More than capable of consistently beating Djokovic in the coming tournaments and next year.

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Showdown in Shanghai

Andy could have, should have won the Match IMHO, but he just let it get away from him That being said I have to give the edge to Nole when it comes down to mental toughness. Even after a Slam and two Olympic Medals Andy still seems to fall back into his habit of feeling/thinking that he isn't going to win the Match so he doesn't win the Match!

Re: M.Muzza.M Chat - Showdown in Shanghai

Did not want to give Djoker a confidence boost going into WTF.
As I said in GM, I was impressed how well Murray was playing in throughout most of the 2nd set. Really strong tennis, forehand, backhand, serve return etc. Then it all unraveled. Djokovic will always make you work to close it out, but I really didn't like how Murray responded to losing the first match point he went into yell/error mode. I thought it might not matter when he got the second match point on his serve in the tiebreak, but letting Djokovic back in is always risky. After seeing Murray smack all those return winners yesterday I was convinced he'd take one of the 3 match points on return after that, but it was not to be. There was no way he was winning the third set after that. I think it was a bit of choke, but not a big deal in the context of the last few months.

Also, I need to say out of the gloating thread before I get banned again.
