Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

MP was unreal! Loved the exchange of mirror image FH winners down the line in the middle of the last set. Andy played some gorgeous tennis! What a bonus this clay season has been!

And I think he has a chance against Rafa

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

Andy in RG semi final - who would have 'thunk' it? Finally, I can relax and savour his achievement. Andy always brings his best tennis against Nadal and they both produce incredible rallies and spectacular shots. Looking forward to Friday and may the winner take all the spoils on Sunday.

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

I think he will have chances but my head says Nadal.

For me, he's achieved his billing here at Roland Garros and whatever comes now is bonus, so I can now relax and enjoy the final three matches of the mens tournament without too much stress.

No doubt in the match on Friday I will get a bit stressed, especially if Andy starts to have chances, but I think now I'm at peace

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

I see it's the first match on. Fair enough. I don't normally drink but tomorrow I will make an exception. I don't care who wins as long as it's a high quality match, I still have the feeling that if the right Andy Murray steps out on court then anything is possible. Like all his matches. Come on Andy!

Good first set although Andy should've taken his chances! 4-6

Some serious wind today, and it's not helping.

Rafa's won the 2nd set 7-5. Andy's still close but he's swearing to himself now

This has actually been closer than I expected but still the result is going in the expected direction.

Oh well 4-6 5-7 4-6. Not bad but could've been better. A great clay season from Andy!

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

I thought he played very well, with the exception of the biggest points - 3/18 on break points. On a lot of those Rafa upped his intensity and Andy sorta didn't. That's my disappointment with this match. But still, it's Rafa on clay, it's a pretty tight 3 sets, he never looked at any stage like getting completely rolled, he hung in there all the way along so he has to be pleased with his French Open.

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

Very similar, in fact almost identical scoreline to their match at Wimbledon last year, which was 4-6 6-7(6) 4-6.

Andy played very well in the first two sets, in my opinion he didn't play as well in the 3rd but did well to hang in there as Rafa upped his intensity. Andy had his fair share of chances, the break point conversion stat is the one that hurts - however Rafa played very very well on those points and that's what made the difference really.

Still a really good clay season, a SF at RG is more than I wished for. Now onto the grass where hopefully he'll do well.

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

I thought the third set was some of the cleanest hitting he was doing all match

The second was the best from him, he really felt right in there until the end.

Re: Andy's 2011 - Hope Springs Eternal

He had a good run and he fought to the end.

He had a blog on his site and he mostly talked about the match. Didn't say much about how his ankle was feeling. So we'll just have to wait and see in that area.

The draw's out http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/311/mds.pdf
He has Cilic, Dimitrov, Tipsarevic, Bellucci, Malisse and Russell in his quarter. Strong field for a 250, even with Nole pulling out!
