Javi lost 4-6 4-6

I liked his game, even though he lost. Of course, there's still a lot room for improvement, but what I saw seems promising.

Re: Javier Martí

Not too bad considering this is his first Challenger tournament. It also lets us no that at the beginning of next season he may travel down to South America to start the challengers down there.

Re: Javier Martí

Yeah.. sucks that he lost, but I kinda had a feeling he would. He was cruising through the matches, and I saw that as a bad sign. I just knew he would lose the final.

But well, at least he reached the final and he should get some points for being the runner up

He didn't play a challenger, this was a future tournement in Madrid.

Yeah, sorry.. ur right.

Anyway losing 4-6, 4-6 is not too bad. I expected worse. I think it's perhaps a bit premature starting playing challengers though, he's not good enough. Maybe if he's lucky with the draw, but.. I definitely think he should play some more futures before he moves on to challengers.

Why do you think he should play more Futures before he moves to Challengers? Because last week you said:

What made you change your mind? A loss, that even wasn't as bad as you expected it to be?

Maybe he's not good enough for Challengers, but he's definitely too good for Futures. I'm not saying he should quit Futures for good and play only Challengers, but playing Futures, where he can beat almost anybody, won't help him learn how to handle and beat higher ranked guys that play at Challengers circuit.

Ugh, to be honest.. I don't know. It's not even the loss, because he played better than expected in the challenger. But I remember two futures a month or so ago, in Croatia I think it was? He only reached the QF and then didn't even make the 2nd round in the future the week after. That was when the draw was tough. He's been smart and/or lucky and has played futures with a weak draw, so he got some easy wins. But he seemed to struggle as soon as the draw was a bit hard.

I don't know.. right now perhaps he should play futures a while longer to get his ranking up, and to improve his game, before playing more challengers.

Re: Javier Martí

well I think Futures at the start of the year would be fine. If he goes to South America, then most of the players 120-250 will be in Australia for Aussie Open Qualifying, so the draw won't be particularly strong, and he may be able to pick up some points, and then maybe come back to Europe to get ready for the European Clay Court season. In my opinion his goal for next year should be getting a good enough ranking to play in French Open qualifications.

Thanks for the update I'll remember to keep a track on him and see how he does. Hopefully he'll do well this year too.
