Carlos Boluda-Purkiss

Born 22 January 1993 (aged 17) in Alicante, Spain. Plays right handed and has a double handed backhand.

Currently ranked at a career high #938 and 4th highest of players born 1993 or after.

In juniors is ranked #25 (career high #21). Last junior event was a France grade 1 in which he won without dropping a set.

This week he got a wild card into Spain F16 and plays David Souto in round one. Best men's results to date have been two Spanish Futures quarter-finals (one in September 09 and one in March 10).

Re: Carlos Boluda-Purkiss

That's funny, the player threads for even younger Australians (for example, Kubler and Saville) have lots of posts in them.

Anyway, in Spain F16 1st round:
David SOUTO (VEN) defeated Carlos BOLUDA-PURKISS (ESP) 7-5 4-6 6-3

Boluda is also on the list for Spain F17 starting tomorrow. But the most exciting news is that he's going to compete in junior Roland Garros again this year. It should be a really competitive event, with 27 of the top 30 juniors entered including both of last year's finalists, Berta and Mina, as well as world number one Fernandes.

-edit 26th June - (so a thread no one reads doesn't get bumped)

Carlos puts the Roland Garros juniors disappointment (1st round loss) behind him by qualifying then reaching the semi-finals of back to futures in Morocco. This should put him in the top 750.

Re: Carlos Boluda-Purkiss

He isn't even the best Spanish player born in 1993 (that's Roberto Carballés). Boluda-Purkiss has been overrated since he was 12 years old. I think he'll be lucky if he makes the top-100

Well, Carballés was almost a nobody until he won in Oviedo. Let's wait and see.
Boluda was clearly the best player in Europe in his generation when he was 12-15, that's not debatable. Of course predicting the evolution of a player is not easy, the best juniors not always become the best pros but that doesn't change the fact that they were the best juniors.

I must sadly agree with that.

Re: Carlos Boluda-Purkiss

Carlos has restarted this season beginning in futures qualifying in USA on green clay and recently playing futures qualifying in Croatia. His ranking no longer is high enough to make MDs of futures after his injuries, so he is basically having to start from scratch in his career.

He has qualified three times into the MD of futures events in 2012 but has failed to win a match in the main draw. Hopefully things can start to turn around for him soon, as it's sad to see someone who had such a star spotlight placed on him at a young age struggle this much, for reasons not of his own doing but because of injuries.
