Santiago Ventura

No thread for him?

Well Santiago has had injury trouble in the past year or so which saw his ranking plummet to the 400's but after reaching the Valencia semifinal earlier this month where he played Almagro very tough he has brought it back up to 235. Santiago's highest ranking was 71 in the peek of clay season 2 years ago.

Playing some solid tennis as he defeated two players ranked in the top 150 in Santiago Giraldo and Mathieu Montcourt as he has qualifies for Estoril.

He plays Roitman in the first round, should be a tough match, Santiago beat Rotiman in ther loan meeting at Buenos Aires Challanger 05 7-6(4) 6-4

If he could beat Sergio then it is most likley Djokovic so that would be a huge challange.

[1] Nikolay Davydenko v Olivier Patience [Q]
Teimuraz Gabashvili v Vincent Spadea
[WC] Frederico Gil v Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo
Max Mirnyi v Richard Gasquet [5]

[4] Fernando Gonzalez v Paul-Henri Mathieu
Igor Kunitsyn v Pedro Sousa [WC]
Luis Horna v Sam Querrey
Juan Monaco v Gael Monfils [8]

[6] Dmitry Tursunov v Florent Serra
Michael Russel v Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
Sergio Roitman v Santiago Ventura [Q]
Igor Andreev v Novak Djokovic [3]

[7] Augustin Calleri v Danai Udomchoke
[Q] Alejandro Falla v Juan Martin del Potro
Evgeny Korolev v Qualifier
Albert Montanes v Tommy Robredo [2-WC]

The countdown too the top 100 is on

Good Luck Santiago

Re: Santiago Ventura

yeah I was wondering why I hadn't seen his name for ages. great to see him back again in Estoril...he's a funny guy. I saw him play at the Australian Open a few years ago and everyone was calling him "Ace" because of Ace Ventura lol. He and Ferrero didn't play badly in doubles then either. But the main thing is for him to work on his singles ranking now...mucha suerte!

Re: Santiago Ventura

Djokovic may be number 6 in the world but Santiago beat him in ther only meeting at Freudenstadt Challanger in 2004; 7-6(6) 6-4 (but Nole was ranked 294 at the time )

Santiago had a nice week at Mas Palomas challanger in Spain.

But he fell up short in the finals losing in 3 sets to Peter Luczak.

I like Santiago, and he's nice too. It was fantastic seeing him and JC playing doubles for a while.

Re: Santiago Ventura

Santi hasn't been doing too badly lately...he made the Timisoara final, where he lost to Hanescu, but he and Granollers-Pujol won the doubles there, so a good week overall!

Re: Santiago Ventura

Santi continues his good form: made the final of Cherkassy last week losing 5-7 6-7(7) to Pashanski. And won the doubles with Muñoz de la Nava (another Spanish guy)...so a good week in Ukraine for him. Now it's off to Holland where he'll be the #2 seed at Alphen...vamos!

Re: Santiago Ventura

The Ace Ventura won the Copa Petrobas title at Montevideo in early November last year, to re-enter the top 100 where he belongs. He is currently ranked at world no. 88. He narrowly lost in the 1st round at Doha to Tipsarevic at the start of the season, and Del Potro was too strong for him in the 1st round at Melbourne.
Santi has been draw against wildcard entry and 2005 champion Gaudio in the 1st round at Vina Del Mar this week. Hopefully he'll end his 4 match losing streak and seal his first victory list the Montevideo final last year.

Well he defeated Gaudio and now faces Roitman. I admit this is where my lack of tennis knowledge shows up I don't know either Roitman or Ventura
