Allez Willy in Lyon - Guaranteed to go deeper than Madrid!

Willy plays 2002 Lyon Champion Paul-Henri Mathieu in the first round of main draw, so no danger of losing in 2R of qualleez!

Their h2h is 1-1, with a win for Paulo 4-6 7-5 6-0 in 1R of Montreal last year.

In 3R of Roland Garros 2005, Willy beat Paulo with a score of 6-3 7-6(4) 2-6 6-7(5) 8-6. The match lasted 5:04 and Paulo outscored Willy by 7 points.

Allez! Let's hope this thread survives longer than the Madrid thread!

Snoo - I can't wait to see him back on court (hopefully there will be a livestream). I think he can beat PHM but he needs to serve well.

2nd match on CC today. Hoping for a livestream.

Guys I also have serious concerns about Willy's participation in the DC final. I don't know if this is the right thread to post but I need to discuss the possibility that he may miss out on a doubles berth. Who do you think the doubles team should be? I was thinking about him teaming with Lucas Arnold as they did play together at Wimbledon? What are your thoughts?

Well, Mancini will surely take his responsibility and select the players with good form on that specific moment.
I'd very much like Willy to play, but if there are better options, then we'll have to accept this.
Mancini (fortunately) has quite a field to choose from: Nalby, Delpo, Willy, Gordo, Chucho, Pico and eventually Schwank and I'm sure he'll choose whoever is best for the team.
Most important is that they win the whole thing and this will be difficult enough already.

And, part of the final team or not, it doesn't matter who plays as long as the result is a victory. I'm sure they'll all share in the joy then

I'm watching the SB and it's not going well against PHM

Ok things are not looking good in the first set for Willy 1-5. Hoping the 2nd set is a lot better. He is only serving at 29%. Does he need a different coach?

He lost 3-6 4-6
He seemed to have a momentum when being 1-5 behind in the 1st set, because then he broke back and when PHM was serving for the set, Willy had BP too. If only he could have converted that.

Well, I knew it would be very difficult against PHM but I feel so bad for him

martine I feel for him too. I wonder what his problem is. I thought after the first set he was making some progress on PHM serve and felt he would take the 2nd set.

Re: Allez Willy in Lyon - Guaranteed to go deeper than Madrid!

mrtine I have just read your post re: DC and thanks for your thoughs. I am a bit surprised that the Argies don't have any regular doubles team. I wouldn't mind Pico playing and I so want them to win the final as well. And I am sure that if Willy doesn't get selected he will give his support to the team.

Well, he doesn't manage to find his form again and this must be so hard for him.
I wouldn't blame Etlis for it. They've been a good team for such a long time already so I don't see why this would have changed.
It must be so tough for him mentally, to face defeat time and time again. I hope he keeps his head up.
Maybe he should take a break and get his batteries charged again.
If he ever retires I want it to be because he chooses for it and not because the results aren't there anymore.

And he's a fighter. I'll always support him and I still believe he can turn this situation and have good results again.
