He won 7-5 5-7 6-3 and almost got broken back in the last game. BP conversion (4/13) and BPs saved (1/4) were terrible.

He will need to get it together against his nemesis (and doubles partner) in the next round.

Re: .^.^.^.^. Rebound Ace Season 2007 .^.^.^.^.

Are you sure he's playing Clement? Guccione beat Clement and Becker, so I'm assuming Gasquet'll be playing Guccione. In any case, Guccione's a good server, and with Richard's break-point conversion, it'll be very tough.

I am a fan of Federer, Gasquet, Baghdatis, the long-deceased Safin, Youzhny, Nalbandian, Rochus, Tsonga, the sadly-departed Santoro, and good, hearty, competitive tennis matches. The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

I assumed Clement would win.

Anyway, Richard could very well lose to Guccione.

He could have let it go after having won the first set, but fought it through and won. No reason to bash him.

There were points at stake so he couldn't tank even if he wanted to.

Pffff, I don't think that he treasured the points so much. He would have been in the quarters anyway. Unfortunately for him his biggest opponents Murray and Djokovic are at the same stage, so not much to gain up to now with a view to getting to 16 ranking for the AO.

Re: .^.^.^.^. Rebound Ace Season 2007 .^.^.^.^.

Richard explanations :
Quote:
Gasquet was not quite so happy, yesterday threatening not to play in a round robin tournament for the rest of the season while delivering a stinging critique of the ATP's experimental format. The Frenchman said he was aware that he needed to win only the first set of his final pool match to reach the quarters, and blamed that knowledge for a three-set struggle against Canadian Frank Dancevic.

"When I won the first set, I knew I was the qualifier for the quarter-finals so it wasn't easy for me to play the second set," Gasquet said. "I didn't like to play after winning the first set. I am not sure I will play a round robin (again) in the year. I did not like the second set."

The good new, he's apparently not tired, the bad new, he needs only few thing to be disturbed...
