Judging by scoreline, destroyed by Edmund. Thought he would have at least reached R3 to face Isner.
Anyone saw the match? Back still troubling him? I read that it was, but from unreliable sources.
Hi guys. Long time no post. I watched Richard practice on Sunday and was worried because he was scheduled for a 2+ hour practice block but left after only 1 hour (one tie-break set played). I thought at the time that he could have been nursing a back injury, but now I think it's the wrist.
I was also at Richard's match today. I've never seen his backhand be so ineffective: no down-the-line shot and very little top on his cross-court. He just couldn't create any angles (because he couldn't hit his heavy topspin, which is very wrist driven) so he couldn't drag Edmund out wide. Edmund just ran around the backhand and walloped forehands all match long. I also noticed that Richard kept rotating his wrist between points.
I hope I'm wrong but this is a worrying development if I'm not.
BTW, I don't think it's the back even though he had two strips of physio tape on his lower back. His serve speed was okay (one hundred teens) and I didn't notice him touching his back. He also didn't look stiff.
