Expected defeat but I'm still disappointed This week will mean a lot more if he keeps winning matches in Cincy

Re: ++++++ North American Hardcourt Season 2006 ++++++

Good match today, Richard, continue the form in Cincinatti and get to the final again! Or win a couple rounds at least.

I am a fan of Federer, Gasquet, Baghdatis, the long-deceased Safin, Youzhny, Nalbandian, Rochus, Tsonga, the sadly-departed Santoro, and good, hearty, competitive tennis matches. The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

well played richie! even though fed won he played a good match which nearly gave me a heart attack on a few occasions! was an exciting match. he only has 2nd round points to defend in cincy and i will be interested to see how much his ranking has gone up.
but its true what they say watching matches like this when watching your favourite seriously damages your health!

Well yet again Federer drops a set, but still manages to win I had really wanted this to be Richie's day, but you don't always get what you want Still Richie played well and he is definitely going to move up in the rankings

Re: ++++++ North American Hardcourt Season 2006 ++++++

Very disappointing match from the two of them, I have to say. Way too many errors. I guess they were nervous considering what was at stake.

I think Richard will regret the first 3 games of the second set the most. Had 3 BPs in the first and couldn't convert, saved 2 BPs in the second only to DF and then hit a silly dropshot and then had 2 BPs in the third which he didn't convert either. To be fair though, Roger also gave him plenty of gifts in the first set. Richard didn't really believe he could win after the first set, IMO. He got flustered too easily after the missed opportunities in the first game of the second set and wasn't as solid and steady as he has been this week. Hopefully, he'll learn from this and not make the same mistakes in the future.

On the other hand, Roger did well to recover from that horrid first set. What a champion.

It's a shame for Richie that he couldn't win this but he should be really happy with his reults this week. I am proud that he got to the final and managed to at least make a match of it against Roger! hopefully he can continue this form into Cincy and the USO!

Apparently, he'll definitely get a USO seed

that's great! at least the draw can't be too bad now (i.e no federer in the first round!) but knowing Richard's luck he'll draw the most dangerous unseeded player!

Re: ++++++ North American Hardcourt Season 2006 ++++++

Shame that Richard lost, but we have to be proud of what he did this week. I saw the entire match and after the first set, I really thought he was going to win especially having three break points in the opening game of the 2nd game. Shame he couldn't have broken there. The match was great to watch--some of the shots both guys were coming up with were amazing. Yes, there was some sloppy play, but overall, I think the match was pretty good. I would have liked a different result, but I'm still happy with Richard.

Btw: Silver... they interviewed Eric during the 3rd set here and I thought of you His english was so cute and he was so nice! I can see why you are in love with him.

Even though I didn't watch the first set, I agree with you.

But Richard did us proud this week. Hopefully he can back it up with a decent Cincinnati result. And congrats on the runner-up prize, Richie!

Roger's my favorite, but I would have loved to see Richie winning it as well. In fact, Richie is by far my top choice to break any streaks Roger has going on, so... Just Piggy can't do it.

Re: ++++++ North American Hardcourt Season 2006 ++++++

I am still very disappointed seeing that Richard played very well in the first set and then after the 3 BP wasted, he didn't believe in himself anymore...
He tried to keep offensive but missed some volleys, made some bad choices... He was also a little tired I guess.

Anyway, he can be proud of himself. Great tournament Richie!!! His turn will come.

Congratulations federer
