Point to Defend(put in the week they will drop):

Code:

Week 15 - 11/04: Monte-Carlo (1000) 0 (45 replaceable) N/A
Week 16 - 18/04: Barcelona (500) 0 (45 replaceable) N/A
Week 17 - 25/04: 250 (Estoril) W
Week 18 - 02/05: Madrid (1000) 45 R32
Week 19 - 09/05: Rome (1000) 45 R32
Week 20 - 16/05: 0 N/A
Week 21 - 23/05: Roland Garros (2000) - -
Week 22 - 30/05: Roland Garros 180 R16
Plenty of room to put on points.

Those 3 masters are important, especially with Raonic breathing down your neck

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

^ Cilic is actually closer than Raonic(though not much difference).

Raonic defends a decent amount before Rome. Then he didn't play Rome and RG last year, so he can cover up there. He has 180 to defend in each of MC and Madrid. He is in good form, but he can't put on points unless he makes the SF. But with Estoril points coming off, Richard could easily fall out of the top 10 before Rome too. However, top 12 ranking and seeding for RG is quite safe.

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Points to be WON, especially in the 3 Masters 1000 and Barcelona. Cilic and Raonic are catching up with Richard so hopefully Richard has some good tournaments.
From the 4 tournaments before Roland Garros, I'm hoping Richard can at least gain 720 points. That's 3 QF in the Masters and SF in Barcelona 500.

It's important to have a top 12 seeding for Roland Garros.

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Looking ahead, it's not just protecting his top 10. After Wimbledon (I'm assuming he doesn't get back to the last 4, delighted if he does) a lot of points drop and it will be the first time this year where the injury layoffs will hurt. I'm not thinking in the short term Raonic will overtake him, but these masters (+ Barca and even RG, where I always feel he plays well and bumps into a top seed in R4 for which top 12 obviously helps) are where he'd want to widen the gap.

I just really hope he isn't injured again this year

If he can do well in Roland Garros, it will help ease the points from Wimbledon. It's time to reach the QF for the first time in Paris!!

If he's seeded 9-12, he will play 5-8 seed in the 4th round.... Last year he was the 20th seed and got Anderson (15th seed) in R3 which led to Djokovic in the 4th.

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

MC draw:

R1: Almagro
R2: Pouille/Mahut
R3: Tsonga
QF: Federer

He's dropped in the ranking and he's now 62th but Almagro beated Tsonga and Ferrer @Bueno s Aires, so I think this is a hard first round.

Allez !

Gasquet ● B.Baker ● Soderling ● Wawrinka ● Federer ● Goffin ● Sijsling ● Youzhny ● Thiem ● Gulbis ● Mahut ● Brown ● F.Mayer ● Tomic

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Yeah, tough draw.

Bookies have him at much bigger of a favourite than I expected.
ALmagro had a good run in Argentina, but he hasn't done too well otherwise, with losses to Cervantes(hard) and Monteiro(Clay) since.

Tough doubles draw w/ Tsonga, drawing in the in form NEstor/Stepanek in R1, whom they lost to in straights yesterday

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

They had a very even H2H but Richard won the last 3 encounters, hope trend continues here. Not ideal draw but Tsonga is inconsistent. He can hope someone else takes out Kneederer

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Wow, that was one-sided. Gasquet won 9 games in a row (and incidentally, Monfils won 11 in a row in his match).
Next up Pouille, who straight setted Mahut. Easy R2 match.

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Nice to win 9 in a row

Only watched set 1 last night, Richard looked good but usual he started the match serving poorly.

Pleasantly surprised by the result, Almagro was playing quite well in the first set so didn't expect a bagel

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Richard lost to Pouline 6/4 5/7 1/6

It seemed Richard tired a bit in the 3rd and Pouille played well with aggressive tennis. Disappointing tournament, was a good chance to reach the QF. Onto Barcelona!

Bad loss. He had a great chance to go up the ranking with Berdych dropping a whole ton of points.

Re: Road to Roland Garros - Clay Season in Europe!

Depressing loss. I didn't see the match but it looked closed from the scoreboard (at least in the first 2 sets).

This year the highest ranked player he beat was Benoit Paire (#22). He lost to 2 youngsters: Kyrgios (#41) & Pouille (#82).

Gasquet ● B.Baker ● Soderling ● Wawrinka ● Federer ● Goffin ● Sijsling ● Youzhny ● Thiem ● Gulbis ● Mahut ● Brown ● F.Mayer ● Tomic
