Re: ~/~/~/~ Kicking Off 2006 ~/~/~/~

From what I could see, he wasn't suffering from the injury any more!!! I think the problem was more a lack of match play and he couldn't read henman's serve very well. He hit a lot of good winners but there were a lot of sloppy errors too. Hopefully he'll improve before AO though!

Re: ~/~/~/~ Kicking Off 2006 ~/~/~/~

Dangit. He's going to win Sydney anyway.

Seriously, though, as long as he isn't hampered by injury, I think he can shake off rust and mental errors with time.

I am a fan of Federer, Gasquet, Baghdatis, the long-deceased Safin, Youzhny, Nalbandian, Rochus, Tsonga, the sadly-departed Santoro, and good, hearty, competitive tennis matches. The quality of my life does not rest solely on who wins these matches. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that I can live quite happily after a player I like chokes, mugs, bashes, or otherwise succumbs to a loss.

My thoughts exactly
He looked rather nervous as well. He was frowning as usual. Eric won't be happy with that.

Anyway, he hasn't been very lucky to draw a player like Henman after a so long break cos he didn't really have the opportunity to settle his game properly.
Hopefully, with some match plays, he will gain confidence.

well said julie!

I was on the livescore board but coudnt support the stress more,I left.sorry lol(silver and linus)

I watched the end of match and richard could have won this second set,he had 2 break points on henman serve at 4-5 ,saved 3 matchpoints.I think with more matchs or if he was facing another kind of player(not a net attaquant like henman)he would have win.

Its not a bad lost though even if its still a lost.Let be positive and hope that he have a better luck in sydney with the draw and gain some confidence there by winnings matchs.

Come Back Tournament: HAMBURG.

Allez!

Richard: "It was a very hard draw for my first tournament back after three months. He's one of the best players in the world and he played really well today. He volleyed well and did not give me too much rhythm from the baseline. But I take a lot of positive things out of this match: I feel no pain in my elbow and look forward to my next event in Sydney." --ATP SITE
I'm really happy with the last sentence. Hearing that he felt no pain in his elbow makes me feel a whole lot better.

Sydney, here we come

Re: ~/~/~/~ Kicking Off 2006 ~/~/~/~

almost the same on cnn website :

"It's difficult to play against him: he's a great player," Gasquet said of the former world number four. "But I haven't played for a long time and it was a difficult match for me.

"He played very well and I am just happy because I played," added the teenager level-headedly, referring to a three-month absence from competition with an elbow injury.

"Last year I had a lot of pain and now I have no pain, which is good. I just have to practise and I will be OK."

Richard -- tough match vs. Henman but it's early days and he needs match practice. Good to hear he's physically OK.

Hopp Rogi! Go Gonzo! Allez Gasquet!

Has there been any news on Gasquet/Grosjean vs. Monfils/Wawrinka? On the order of play/scores topic, an alternate team seemed to have replaced Gasquet/Grosjean.

Gasquet/Grosjean didn't play, they were replaced by Tursunov/Starace. This is Grosjean who retired because of "right hamstring".

The only good news is that it wasn't Gasquet who retired...

Re: ~/~/~/~ Kicking Off 2006 ~/~/~/~

I was looking forward to checking the result all day and having Richard get more match play in. When I saw an alt. team was placed in I was so worried that Richard rehurt his elbow or something. Not that I want anyone to be hurt, but thankfully it wasn't Richard.
