Re: Road To New York - It's Summer Season! [US Open]

I'm a little disappointed that he didn't manage to win a set here. It's been 5 years now that he clinched is last one against Rafa. He was playing well, using his variety and Rafa was not at his best level, so I feel he missed a chance here.
But last year in USO, he also lost in 3 close sets against Ferrer, and look what happened this time...

He is building up confidence and a very solid level of play.
I really hope he will stay injury-free next year and 2014 could be a very good year.

Allez !

Gasquet ● B.Baker ● Soderling ● Wawrinka ● Federer ● Goffin ● Sijsling ● Youzhny ● Thiem ● Gulbis ● Mahut ● Brown ● F.Mayer ● Tomic

Yup, in the interview on L'Equipe Richard said this has been and still is his main goal for the year. The competition for the last two spots will be very close and exciting.

Let the race begin!

Re: Road To New York - It's Summer Season! [US Open]

I did not get to see the match live , so I did watch the tape. A nervous start for sure . A good second set , but really poor tiebreaker . And then he succumbed to the inevitable . But , there was great net play.
All in all , a superb tournament for Richard . I am so happy for him. I hope he can build on this going forward . It was great seeing him in the final rounds of a big event like this. It is what we have always hoped for him
keep up the great work and I hope he can achieve his goal of making the world tour finals !

Re: Road To New York - It's Summer Season! [US Open]

So Wawrinka is 160 points ahead of Richard. That is very gettable considering there is 6 tournaments left to play this year. Richard is 310 points ahead of Tsonga who is in 10th place.

Richard will play 2 ATP 250, 2 ATP 500 and 2 Masters 1000 tournaments so that's a good balance. Wawrinka will also be playing 6 tournaments in a row. So it will go down to the wire!! Wawrinka plays Kuala Lumpur instead of Bangkok and then from there, Richard and Stan have the same schedule!!

Of course the 2 Masters 1000 tournaments will be key as that's where the most ranking point are. I think a SF in at least one of the 2 tournaments is important!

Let the Asian season start and then we see!

ALLEZ!

According to Federer's website he will only play Shanghai (1000), Basel (500), and Bercy (1000)... but he is currently 290 points ahead of Richard.

Allez!!!

Allez!!!
Or I guess Richard can just beat Stan who is only 160 ahead of him. I'm suprised Stan is playing KL as he's playing Davis Cup the week before.

Bangkok has a buttload of good players: Murray, Berdych, Raonic, Nieminen, Tomic, Simon, Youhzny, Robredo... I hope Richie is up for the challenge. That's 250 he's defending.

Kuala Lumpur starts a week after the Davis Cup finishes, so he will have some rest. In between the Davis Cup and Kuala Lumpur is Metz and St Petersburg.

Allez Richard for Bangkok!!

This is about to get really interesting (or scary!)

Current ATP rankings:

8. Tsonga – 3425 points (defending 1060 points to the end of Bercy.)
9. Richard – 3165 points (defending 485 points to the end of Bercy.)
10. Stan – 3150 points (defending 270 points to the end of Bercy.)

Even if Tsonga was fully fit he would struggle to defend all those points. Coming back from a 2+ month lay-off is going to be really tough for him. I think we may soon have a new world no. 8 ... but who will it be?!?!?!?

Richie will have to defend his title in Bangkok which seems very tough. What's worse Kuala Lumpur is a weaker field than Bangkok, so Wawrinka will be soon ahead of Gasquet (and Tsonga, winner in Metz and runner-up in Beijing last year.) Still I'm not very pessimistic, for Wawrinka is not a good indoor player and doesn't play well later in the season. For WTF, it matters if Richard can win another title and if he can go deep in masters. Then the road to 8th will open up!

It's interesting both Gasquet and Wawrinka will play six tourneys in a row and share five out of the six! They both chose incredibly tough 500 tourneys.. Beijing and Basel. They will be unable to win a 500 title, so, as I said above, 250 and 1000 are important!

Personally I just hope Richie will stay in form. Not a great schedule for his body.. so he needs to take advantage as early as possible! Allez Richard.

Re: Road To New York - It's Summer Season! [US Open]

SO, so glad that Richard’s not playing Davis Cup this weekend.

Nadal, Berdych, Stan and Murray have all played doubles as well as singles. Murray’s been having back problems adjusting to the Umag clay and still needs to win his singles tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Richard is taking it easy and will be starting the rugby match between Beziers and Agen today! Allez!!!!

I really hope he does well in Bangkok. It would be great for his seeding at the bigger tournaments if he could somehow get that ATP no. 8 ranking.

Re: Road To New York - It's Summer Season! [US Open]

I am back. I was on holiday in France, but I did not see a single point of Richard's US Open. But I read every line in L'Equipe - front page twice! What a performance, two five setters and a GS semi.

Hi Puschkin. Great to have you back!

There are some highlights packages over on the video threat. Hopefully the full matches of Raonic and Ferrer will appear on youtube soon. Richard was awesome!!!

Edit - the entire Nadal SF is on youtube now (have added a link today in the video thread. )
