Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Posey from downtown! Hornets up by 3. NOO Posey throws it away, steal back by Paul, ARGH he misses. Great ending to game - Time out with 20 seconds left, which can be an eternity in a B ball game.

EDIT - OT! Paul why did you miss the shot at the buzzer? I love basketball cuz things can turn around so fast. And yeah Paul messed up at the end-redemption time Chris...Go Hornets.
I actually fell asleep with 5 minutes left to go in the game.

I like basketball, too! I don't actually have favorite teams or so, I just like watching some random guys play :D

I love Scottish English, it's my second fav accent. You must've heard Billy Boyd? His talking is :inlove:

Me too, I've wondered for a long time why doesn't he use his accent. That might make him more attractive

Tattooed guys usually make me run but Tipsy is kinda cute :)
Have you heard (or seen!) James McAvoy :hearts: I need to see one of his movies

Simon! Simon! Simon! :yippee: I'd just scream with excitement with a Jo/Gilles final
:awww:

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

I'm in such a bad mood over it Davey its not even funny. I know I shouldn't let tennis get to me like that but when someone I like doesn't even try and was in such an obviously bad mood I can't help but get in a bad mood myself

All us Gasquet fans of 2008 can relate to that all too well unfortunately. But 2009 is a new year...

I think Simon is feeling the pressure of keeping a stop in the Top 10. so far this year he really hasn't played nearly as well as last year when he was fighting to get to Top 10. As they say, it's a lot easier to get to top 10 then it is to stay Top 10 - ask Richie and many others.

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

If the media stopped expecting him to fail and saying he doesn't deserve to be in the top 10 then maybe he'd relax and enjoy the experience. You're right though. That's why the people who stay in the top 10 are so special such as Roddick, Federer, Nadal etc...

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

My favourite accent is the Manchester accent ... yes I have an obssession with Manchester I admit it  I do a mean impression of it too actually. One time I was in Manchester and I was doing the accent while talking to my friend and someone came up and asked me if I knew where the Trafford Centre shopping complex was  They thought I was a Manc. I feel like an honorary Manc though. I do love the Aussie accent Venle. Its really, really sexy I think. Hope you enjoyed the clip :)

Its funny you say you find Andy's accent easier to understand because I'm the opposite but I guess we all pick up sounds/accents etc differently.

My favourite accent is the Manchester accent
:speakles: :sobbing:
But in general, I prefer foreign (well, europe really) people's accents when they speak English - french in particular.
I'm going Erasmus next year in Spain, Eimear ! (which is why I spend hours on this board instead of learning my Spanish ) your experience sounds great :D everyone I know who had an Erasmus year told me it was the best part of their studies, I'm really looking forward (as well as fearing) it.
I did an Erasmus year in France last year and loved it! I would recommend it to anyone. :D
I love all the different British accents - Scouse, Manc, Geordie, Cockney and probably loads more. I think they're really great
:speakles: again!!! I really dislike all of the accents you mentioned, especially Scouse!
Would you believe I didn't get any help from my government at ALL. The only thing we didn't have to do was pay fees to the college in France. Everything else we had to pay for ourselves in terms of food and rent and things like that. Its crazy. Its completely subbed in the UK as far as I know
I had a lot of help, we got a grant which was enough to live off and have some left over at the end (which I spent on travelling! ) and I spent a lot of money during the year so now I am more broke than ever!

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

I do like a good scottish accent too. Speaking of James Mcavoy, he's in a play in London, which I'm going to see in a month or two! I'm already so excited!!!
But in general, I prefer foreign (well, europe really) people's accents when they speak English - french in particular. It just melts me! I always wonder what an english accent sounds like when speaking other languages, and whether you can pick up on different english accents in a foreign language.
I find Andy's accent easier to understand too, I guess it depends who's listening!

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Yeah there's just something about French guys speaking English that just sounds so, so sweet and so, so sexy. I love hearing the French tennis players talk English. They're all pretty good. Richard is getting better every time I hear him. He's sweet when he talks in English

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Sorry, I have to jump in  I've often heard people saying the French accent was very cute, but I'm trying so hard to get rid of it ! I find it more stupid than anything actually. It's nearly painful for me to listen to Richie or Jo speaking English  So I have to know what you all find so sexy in it :D

As for you RFK, I don't know in other languages but you can tell if someone is coming from UK or Australia/USA (with a little training) if they're speaking in French, and the UK accent is commonly recognised as a very classy accent -the british touch, you know!

I can pick out accents in other languages vaguely but am always surprised that you don't get ours as British accents are really really regional

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

He was a Bulgarian native actually but had been living in France for years. We lived in the same house together with 10 others. We were both Erasmus students but he'd been there longer than me. I was offered but I declined

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

I learned a new word thanks to you RFK ! would have never guessed what smouldering meant without my dictionnary

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Erasmus was the best time of my life. I only went for one semester but it was fantastic. I fell in love for the first time in my life, made some amazing friends from all over the world and got to experience France. It was unbelievable. Hey Vicky hunny how ya doing? :wavey: Erasmus is the name given to an exchange programme between European universities. It counts towards your college results as you go to college in another country, sit their exams and pass their exams and it ties in with the course you're doing in your home college. I dunno if that makes sense?

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Yes Marion is my name :wavey::)
No no it's not ^^ it's a european programm for students who want to spend a year abroad in another school or university. Basically it's accords between for example, a Spanish and a French university (like in my case) where they decide that let's say 6 French students can exchange their place with 6 Spanish ones. It can last one year or six months. A lot of people try to do it because it's awesome and not too expensive since (at least here) the government helps us a lot.

here you have more info : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ERASMUS_programme

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

Really ? That sucks :/ We get some help here, not much but around 200, 300€ a month which really helps for the rent when you can't count on much money from your parents. Actually I calculated everything and it would be twice more expensive for me to stay in Paris next year than to go in Spain with the state's help !

Re: The Gasket Blowers Chat Thread

You're incredibly lucky Marion. Our government is really bad like that. We get very little financial help for ANYTHING! I'm out of work injured and I get hardly any money so I'm pretty much broke all the time :( I know why people are emigrating to Australia!
