Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

Frankly the only way it could have been really worse is if he had drawn Del Potro instead of Tipsarevic. Maybe a freak draw like Baghdatis in the 1st round would have been worse too but he already got Youzhny in R2.

Or if he got Tomic first round ?

Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

Tipsa is definitely a good third round and Ferrer is better than a top 4. Some 17-24 seeds got top 4 in fourth round.
The problem is the R2 actually.

Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

A slightly good draw......If he really wants to be in the top 10 this year,he definitely can make it through the quarterfinal....But if he is going to start any match in the AO playing passively, then he can kiss top 10 good bye and a good result here at Melbourne....

Ferrer is in the semis at Auckland and he has to play his match today against Verdasco again for a place in the finals...So fatigue might be an issue there.....

Hopefully he will not take this GS lightly as a lot is at stake here....And fatigue will not be a problem for him if he indeed play Youzhny in R2 be it 4 or 5 sets....

Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

The draw is tough but it's the type of players he should really be beating if he wants to go higher and improve.

Rather see him testing his true metal against good quality players than having a soft couple of rounds anyway. If he is truly ready, then it's time to step up and show it.

We'll see- good luck Richard!

Q. You must have so many different emotions going through your head. Was it like a rollercoaster for you?
STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yeah, yeah, it's quite crazy..I never expect to win a Grand Slam.
I never dream about that because for me, I was not good enough to beat those guy.

Maybe the sky will fall?

Good draw. 4th round is very much possible and then we'll see. If he plays right, he can beat Ferrer too, but that is obviously very very difficult.

Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

dont know about the draw but if he works at it? ferrer not good.
rd 2- he could fight it out if he wanted to.
that istomin match gasquet only looked like he cared when he got behind. not a good way to play tennis. maybe a slam will get him motivated more. or maybe he was saving up for the slam- at least I hope

Del Potro is currently largely overestimeated. I am happy that he avoided Raonic or Tomic, both have momentum right now. And he avoided other huge servers like Karlovic, Anderson, Isner, who all can just frustrate you with your serve on a given day, + Dolgopolov who is one of the most unpredictable guys on tour. And I think it also fine not to meet a qualifier to begin with, some of them can be quite tough in the first round.

Youzhny is certainly a serious opponent, but Richard played him often enough to know what to expect, same for Seppi. And as I said yesterday, I am suspicious about so-called easy draws. Better to be up there right from the start.

Exactly - agree with everything - Delpo is not in great form now, Dolgo can be a nightmare to play if hot. Youzhny is tough but has he even played a warm up tournament? if so he hadn't done very well and he has the potential to really stick it up on the court occassionally.

We've all seen good draw/bad draw makes little difference to Richard, if he plays well he can beat many players and if he doesn't he could loose to ANYONE, it's up to RIchard.

Time to step it up and play like a top 10 player if he hopes to be one.

Re: Richard In The Australian Summer 2012- Sydney

Maybe it was a good thing that Richard did not reach the Sydeny final. Nieminen has to play the rain-delayed final tomorrow and Nalbandian on Monday.

And he has to play in the doubles final straight after the singles final.
