don't really like the title of the news....but i hope he will get better soon
perhaps he requires an anti-inflammatory injection into the joint to treat his elbow condition, and often this can take some weeks to determine if indeed it is truly effective or if repeat injections are needed.

I feared it, so much about meeting Richard in Vienna.

Re: Richard in the 2011 Eurasian indoors season: from Metz to Paris!

Infiltration vs injection are two different methods of giving the medication
in injection the needle is inserted into one particular spot and the entire dosage of medication is given there
in infiltration the needle is inserted , removed and reinserted in the area to give a broader application of the medicine over a wide area of tissue

the choice depends on the area of the inflammation and the drug of choice to be used

So sorry that this is necessary to repair tissue damage for Richard . I am sorry he will not be there in Vienna , Puschkin.
Hope he has a speedy recovery .

Unwanted persons such as burglars infiltrate your house or others, of undesirable nature, infiltrate your group. Doctors don't infiltrate your body or parts of it. They may inject a substance (medication) in an elbow or in an other part of the body or one of its organs.

This is a link from a jounal called Modern Orthopedic Medicine
I believe it is self explanatory as to difference between injection vs infiltration techniques
I would take them as a source "expert testimony " on the subject .
I was a registered nurse - and knew of the two terms in medical use but looked up the link to find an easy way
to explain the difference between the two because someone asked above. I paraphrased their definitions . But this is the source I got the information from .

The right decision as he's still not 100% fit. Rest up Richard, your doing the right thing, come back to the tour when your fit therefore you can't make this elbow injury worse!

Re: Richard in the 2011 Eurasian indoors season: from Metz to Paris!

Not only Richard withdrew from Vienna, Juanqui who is also one of my favourites withdrew too and Troicki and Lopez, there is hardly anyone of interest left in the draw.

I know my mood will be better as soon as I am at the tourney, finally my love for the game always prevails, but right now I am frustrated.

In lequipe it writes it's sure he won't play Basel. After an injection you need 10 days so Bercy is still doubtful.

Not the greatest news, but thanks for posting, at least we know a bit about what is going on.

This poor guy is plagued by injuries, he's very fragile and unlucky. Wish him a fast recovery

This ellbow problem has been coming and going this year (and before btw), and apparently has plagued Richard ever since Roland Garros. I wonder if it ever was properly treated and I hope it was done now.

True, i have very few confidence in the doctor of the FFT. Not the first time, he didn't find Richard's injury and it's the same thing with the others players.

Maybe something else : did it happen because he tried to change his forehand ?

Please no!! He doesn't need any reason to stop working on a "new" forehand. Richard has had the elbow problem on and off for at least several years and on and off since Roland Garros this year. He missed Bercy a few years ago because of elbow.

Sometimes joint injuries are just a chronic thing and players just have to "live" with it. But sometimes surgery can fix the problem. I know no one wants to have surgery if it can be avoided but MAYBE if his elbow problem is one that can be fixed with surgery he should bite the bullet and just do it instead of wondering when it is going to flare up again and again.

Anyway I know he's very frustrated and I hope he can FULLY recover soon. I don't expect he'll play till 2012 - why play Bercy after no matches since Metz?
