Each year, he is getting a little bit poorer.
Now, he can't beat anymore huge servers.
What's next?

EXACTLY! That has been the most disappointing for me the last several tournaments.

Know points aren't the most important but I do believe he now drops to at least #17 so back come the really tough draws for the 1000s, unless he performs a miracle in the next tournament.

Fire up Richie!!
He's dropped to #16 but probably 17 next week because Tipsarevic is 30 points behind him and plays in Kuala Lumpur which starts on Monday.

Beijing has a strong line, so he needs to be at his very best!

Not any worse than usual. Except for Roddick occassionally, he always had problems with big servers - not that Muller is a huge server.

Anderson in Cincinnati.

He tends to think against big servers just to put the ball in court and wait for them to make the errors.

Re: Richard in the 2011 Eurasian indoors season: from Metz to Paris!

I revised my expectations for Richie.
I just realized that I expected too much for him so I was bitter after his losses.
My revised expectations are more well-matched to this player.

For information, my old expectations were top 10 (or even top 8), a major win in the two coming years (GS or M1000). I was so crazy .

"He asked me lots of problems" analyzes the French at a news conference. "He served well, took the ball early and I was not able to install my game I was running out of time. I really wanted to win. I'm disappointed." Gasquet disappointed, but still sport "At 5-4, I have several opportunities to come back but every time he has spent the first ... It was a big game, really."

Nevertheless, these two close defeats in the face of server-breakers interloquent pace. Gasquet, he speaks first of difficulties in adapting to the indoor. "I miss playing in theaters. On this surface and in these conditions is difficult, especially when you have not played it." But also recognizes its problems facing this type of player: "It is true that it's hard when guys like this m'agressent, serving much more. It's difficult." Richard Gasquet so this leaves Open frustrated at not being able to show his true level. "I was on the verge of explosion on the court. But it's always like that when I lose. It is neither the first nor the last time it happens." With a peaceful mind and a rejuvenated elbow - "nothing dramatic" ensures Gasquet - the French will depart Tuesday for China. Program: ATP 500 in Beijing and the 1000 Shanghai Masters.

Expectations of others have been Richard's albatross since he turned pro.

He's an amazing shotmaker and occassionally has the game, mind and attitude to play a brilliant match but not (at least up to this point) consistently enough to be a solid top 10 player much less a GS winner. Your revised expectaions are much more realistic.

Maybe he's a late (really late) bloomer and his best years are still to come, if not I still enjoy the occassional magic and more frequent frustration of being a Gasquet fan.

There's nothing on the French sites which says he has withdrawn but someone posted on the Beijing thread that he did.....

Beijing, 28 Sept, 2011 –Nicknamed “Baby Federer,” French player, Richard Gasquet, has pulled out from China Open due to an elbow injury.

The tennis star made his debut in 2002 at the Tennis Masters Series at Monte Carlo at the age of 15.

Gasquet has been ranked No. 16 by the ATP since Sept. 26, 2011. His highest ranking in singles is No. 7 in 2008.
Disappointing for him to miss Beijing, hopefully the injury is nothing serious, I thought it had improved but it looks like it didn't.

Re: Richard in the 2011 Eurasian indoors season: from Metz to Paris!

Thanks for the info, frankly, I feared that. It was obvious to see in Metz that he wasn't fully fit and only played to fulfil his obligation. That fifth rubber in Spain was defintely worth it.

Too bad that the second half of the season was spoiled by the ellbow. Sad as this withdrawal is, still better to withdraw than to carry on half injured and getting beaten.
