Re: Richard's Time In The Heat- Summer Season 2011

Only two USO series tournies makes me sad. He could actually win one of the other tournies.

So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

you would have been a little more accurate if you had just ended your sentence earlier like this:
He rarely plays.

of course that might not be too accurate either-does gasquet still play golf? might be just tennis that he rarely plays

Actually, out of the top 20, only 5 have played more tournaments than him. Out of the top 10, only Berdych

This is the first year when he really schedules wisely. Apparently he needs time for rest and build-up to avoid injuriies and keeping up motivation. Last year he needed the points. So he played a lot, but it was not always smart, like getting injured in the Gstaad final and being forced to give up in the first round of Washington immediately thereafter.

Besides, not playing after DC is also wise. DC is emotionally draining (independantly from winning or losing) and players from all kind of countries rarely do well in the immediate follow-up.

USO series crowds are just as small during the week as in other countries. Atmosphere is a matter of opinion I tend to think the USO series crowds are pretty into the matches. Not sure what you mean by recognition.

I'm fully aware Richie never plays the USO series just thought it would be nice if he played outside of Cincy-Montreal where he would have a great chance at taking a tile. Nothing wrong with building confidence.

Maybe I should have said appreciation. I am rather convinced, that Richard -despite his shyness- loves being put on courts with crowds. Playing on court Nr 39 at 11.00 am with no one watching is certainly not to his liking.

I find it hard to believe that US crowd attendance is the same as for other small tourneys. I remember very well first matches even in IW or Cincinnnatti on center court where there was practically nobody watching, even when Americans were playing.

Re: Richard's Time In The Heat- Summer Season 2011

while I would love to see Richard play at least one of the lead up to the US Open series ( hmm , ok the Los Angeles one ). I totally agree that rest is a good thing, and this is a good break in the schedule to relax , enjoy some time at home with his friends, and work on fitness. It will be important for the rest of the season

as for the small crowds- I have only been to the LA event during the US Open series - and yes , early round crowds are pretty small. But lately ,their draw has been pretty lackluster - with the big names -one year Roddick, then Del Potro , and this year , Querrey - all pulling out with injury so late they could not get a replacement.
As for IW , and the empty stadium - I have to argue there . The IW tournament is packed , day in and day out. The big stadium that gets all the tv coverage is huge - and the corporate boxes down low sit empty because often corporate big wigs are in the hospitality suite - eating and drinking . And they don't allow other people to sit there , moving down from the "cheap seats ". Silly really - if the seat is not being used, what 's the harm in letting someone sit in it ? But they don't. There are also 8 other courts at IW - all packed with action from great singles and doubles - and the practice courts are easy to get to and watch. So while it may look like no one is there, I can tell you , those outer courts - and the top of the big stadium - are full to the brim ! Unlike the French Open and Wimbledon , you do not need a specific ticket for each stadium - so a seat to the big stadium acts as a grounds pass . Thus , people holding tickets to the main arena move around more than at other venues.

Re: Richard's Time In The Heat- Summer Season 2011

I just re read my post - had to laugh - sad that Querrey is considered a big name draw on this year's ads for the LA event .
I mean he is not really a big draw , is he ?
Shame that is what they have to promote

really - Fish - Querrey - Blake - those are the headliners
Needless to say , I am not going

You have a point, but look at this, Richard versus Fish in Miami this year.

Re: Richard's Time In The Heat- Summer Season 2011

He will play 1 more 250 tournament later in the year which is Metz. Actually he might play Vienna or St Petersburg to replace Montpelier, Vienna's entry list is normally stronger than St Petersburg so maybe a good idea to go to Russia but on the other hand with Montpelier not being played this year, both tournaments are likely to be strengthened.

Re: Richard's Time In The Heat- Summer Season 2011

Anyone would like to guess where Richard is at the moment? Still on holiday?
