Yes, agree, I feel like he could have won this set 6-0 or 6-1... he really lets his opponents hang in the match so far this tournament, that is my only complaint.. on the other hand, when he needs to break or win points, he seems to be able to do that.
This Bolelli dude, Richard is just toying with him.
Well, I don't think Murray has shown his best tennis either. At least Richard hasn't dropped a set this week. Gasquet is a much more attractive shot maker, in my opinion (i'm biased of course). Richard will need to play above himself if he plays Murray, because he has the crowd to contend with as well.
Great that he is through to the 2nd week in two consecutive GS's. Well Done Richard!
But yeah I agree I haven't seen anything from Gasquet so far that is going to trouble Murray, but I remember thinking that in 2008 as well he normally steps it up as he gets further into a tournament. Think he is just saving his energy
Smart solid match from Richie and yes maybe he should have closed it out a little sooner but not uncommon (even for top players) to have a dip in concentration over a 5 set match when not getting much opposition. He WAS however able to turn it on when he needed the points. He has played 3 matches and not dropped a set - pretty good...
I wasn't crazy about his court position (what's new), could have been much more aggressive - didn't see him hit a volley until the last game or two BUT maybe that was his strategy - just sit WAAY back and let Bolelli self-destruct which he did totally. He did defend very well and his forehand looked good - actually better than backhand today.
Agree with everyone he's been in about 3rd gear until now but the party is over next match - he'll really have to step it up, just hope he can kick it up.
His court positioning is really noticable on the grass because the line that people keep running on is dried out and he's 10 miles behind it. Everyone in the crowd was like how the hell can he hit shots like that from there.
He was toying with Bolelli I wasn't worried for a change, the match was never out of his grasp and he didn't have to work any harder than he did. When he wavered he stepped it up a gear and did what was needed as he clearly wanted to be off court quick because of rain being forecast and he was which was great, also great for me because I spent his entire match stood up and most of it stuck behind people a foot taller than me on tiptoes. I had back cramp by the end of the match. He was very pumped up which I am loving to see from him recently and if he missed something he shouldn't he was frustrated which he should be.
I also checked out his practice session, OMG never seen anyone sweat so much in my life . He seems to me to have really worked on his fitness etc and I think it's paying off. He seems confident of his abilities so lets see what he can do against Andy.
Gasquet and Murray are 1st on CC on Monday. I'm kind of surprised, I would of thought they would of been 3rd. I think Richard would rather be 1st than 3rd, it would be much louder in the evening.
Good luck! Hope you see a great match with a victory by the good guy. I'll be screaming for Richie in my office -bring your ear plugs co-workers.
Lots of good matches tomorrow. I might as well not go to work cuz I'm sure I'll have 3 different matches playing on my computer at the same time - Good thing it is REALLY SLOW at work right now.
well at least he won't blow a 2-0 set lead this time... It was important Richard win the first set especially when such a close, long one. now you can just see that annoying Murray getting more fired up.
ok, the hard way now. Allez, Richard! Level in the 2nd set dropped from both, I felt.
