But is it really necessary to say that? Richard himself spoke about his weaknesses, what does Leconte hope to achieve with this apart from being present in the media? Same with Wilander badmouthing Gael, http://www.eurosport.fr/jeu-set-et-m...postfull.shtml. All this former pros just go for publicity for themselves. I really appreciate guys like Edberg who don't feel a need to comment about everyone and everything.

Does Henri Leconte ever go away? He is on Australian TV all the time acting like an idiot

But Leconte is right, Gasquet is not working, not progressing in any way. I'm getting tired and quite bitter. I'm starting to think he will never make it.

Eurosport probably asked him the question?

But yeah, I get what you mean

I really wonder where he would be now (game-wise and results-wise) if he hadn't hired Eric. Not pointing the finger or anything but it's an interesting thought

I like the idea of Seb working with him, both seriously and because it's fun imagining him transferring that FH to him with some as yet unknown mind-techniques

Leconte is going too far sometimes but frankly, he has a point.
Gasquet has perhaps twice the talent Leconte ever had(Leconte himself would probably agree with that) and yet Leconte at Gasquet's current age had produced far better results than him (making the top 5,going to 2 GS 1/2 finals).
You can understand why he is frustrated by Richard's performances in the last few years.
Every pure french tennis fan would dream of seeing a french player finally win a Grand Slam, let it be Richard,Jo,Gilles or Gael.

And it's not like we are asking him to win Grand Slams or be the number 1.
Is it so hard for someone with so much talent and potential to just manage to win an ATP 500 or a Master Serie at least once in his career???
The expectations on him have lowered so much that now, people are almost on the moon to just see him compete with guys like Berdych or Troicki (not Nadal,Federer or Djokovic) DURING ONE SET.

Re: *** Richie Returns*** 2011 Aussie Summer (Melbourne)

I am really tired of hearing about wasted talent. Successful results in tennis require an NUMBER of things besides just talent - physical and mental strength, proper technique, quick feet, quick hands, a tennis mind (ie. strategy) and a bit of luck with injuries, draw and that specail undefinable something that puts it all together.

Yes he is talented but to a degree so is everyone who has a single ATP point.

Richard is an extremely talented SHOTMAKER with exquisite timing but I wouldn't say he is anywhere near as talented a tennis player; he's not exceptionally fast nor strong mentally or physically. Long ago the media and french tennis saw an amazing young shotmaker with success early in his career and labeled him an extrordinary talent which he has been trying to live up to ever since and we have been expecting of him ever since.

I love the guy and love to watch him play, always will. But the more I watch him play the more I see what his talent level really is.

Re: *** Richie Returns*** 2011 Aussie Summer (Melbourne)

Gasquet just needs to get into his head, not to play 5 feet behind the baseline!!

I'm sure he knows this, but he doesn't show it when he plays!!

Re: *** Richie Returns*** 2011 Aussie Summer (Melbourne)

As much as it hurts to admit it, Richard is lacking a number of departments which make for a really top tennis player. We all know he is mentally fragile and doesn't have much fighting spirit but I also think he lacks somewhat of a tennis brain which players like (as much as I dislike them) Murray and Hewitt have. He needs to really select his shots better and know the weaknesses of his opponent and exploit them, as well as making the most of his (very considerable) talent.

I'm not even expecting any results. Just want to see him play the game that drew all of us in

Re: *** Richie Returns*** 2011 Aussie Summer (Melbourne)

Well... I'm tired and bored about the media and the journalists. I don't know how it is in the other countries but in France, it is a media doggedness on Richard! Yesterday, everything was normal. But now, every French lost, and they try to find a "culprit". And obviously it is Richard. Because according to them (and I saw it on several sites: l'Equipe, Eurosport, rmc) Llodra and Monfils are excusable because of the Davis Cup which shortened their preparation. But Richard was also there!!! And Tsonga is excusable because its body is fragile. But he is not hurt, I saw his match and he gave up mentally, he didn't fight! But that, nobody says it.
Richard lost against the n°6 in the world! While the others French (except for Simon) made real disappointing performances. And nevertheless, it is always the same who is the most brutally criticized. And openly, I'm fed up with that.

I hope Richard doesn't read all this bullshit...

I don't know which can be its future, I don't know if he is going to have a brain wave one day, I don't know if he will manage to win big tournaments; but what I can say, it is that although he loses or although he wins, I shall always be there. Because I love this player, beyond his results.
