Welcoming back Richard on the US Hardcourts 2009- RND 1 USO vs Nadal! Allez!

I don't know about anyone else but I thought it was time we moved on and so this thread is solely for discussing Richard playing tennis.

So he might be starting out in Montreal after all according to http://www.eurosport.fr/tennis/gasqu...lashnews.shtml Thanks Puschkin for the link.

Provisional schedule:

10th-16th August: Montreal Tennis Masters (TBC)- Official Withdrawal from Montreal.
16th-23rd August: Cincinnati Tennis Masters (TBC)- Withdrawn from Cincinnati
24th-30th August: New Haven (entering qualifying- starts Sat 22nd)

QF1: Gasquet d. M.Rubin 6-2 6-3
QF2: Vemic d. Gasquet 7-6 (3) 4-6 6-3

31st August-13th September: US Open

RND1: Gasquet vs Nadal- result Nadal d. Gasquet 6-2 6-2 6-3

Welcome back Richard, looking forward to seeing you back on the tennis courts again soon. Good luck!

06/08/09: OK, updated with official withdrawal from Montreal Masters.
13/08/09: Updated with withdrawal from Cincinnati. Hoping costs nothing anyway. Let's hope he gets the WC for New Haven.
19/08/09: Richie is in the States, according to L'Equipe and will be entering New Haven qualies starting Sat 22 since WC was refused. Welcome back Richard!!
27/08/09: Updated with USO draw- if he manages to pull off a win against Nadal, then my thread will be truely lucky.
02/09/09: Just great to see Richard out there competing again, the victories will come.

Q. You must have so many different emotions going through your head. Was it like a rollercoaster for you?
STANISLAS WAWRINKA: Yeah, yeah, it's quite crazy..I never expect to win a Grand Slam.
I never dream about that because for me, I was not good enough to beat those guy.

Maybe the sky will fall?
Allez Gasquet~Mathieu~Wawrinka~Mannarino~+++

The link doesn't say he will play in Montreal, it just says he's on the entry list.
He hasn't made a decision yet according to L'Equipe this morning.

Oh I know, should have made it clearer in my 1st post maybe. I was just being optimistic and hopeful.

After quite some mess with his name on the tourney's website, this is already good news for us starving Gasquetaires.

Did L'Equipe say something more?

Oh I didn't know about the mess with his name on the website, sorry. The Eurosport thing is a bit misleading too.
I think Eurosport is writing that because of those 3 lines in L'Equipe this morning - saying that he is on the entry lists of Montreal and Cincy, but also that there is no announcement yet as to when he is coming back, Eurosport kept just one part.
There wasn't anything else.

Re: Welcoming back Richard on the US Hardcourts 2009!

And yesterday L'Equipe wrote that he hasn't picked up the racquet yet and is still working on his condition first.
So I guess they will first wait to see how he's doing in training before they make any statement.

As if we hadn't had enough wait and see for some time. I am not so much worried about his tennis though, he won't have forgotten how to play within three months, but physically he is probably off and knowing Peyre's emphasis on the physique, I imagine he makes Richie sweat right now.

Finally a hottie back on TV since Korolev matches are rarely televised here . But hopefully since Richie is back is matches will be televised, I think Sky are broadcasting Montreal and the USO series tournaments here.

Tommy Robredo
Tursunov Wawrinka Berankis Gasquet Dimitrov Korolev McGee

Re: Welcoming back Richard on the US Hardcourts 2009!

As much as I am so looking forward to seeing him play, he could gain another injury if he's not fit enough. Does anyone know if he has many points to defend at Montreal? Did he make fourth round last year?

I think he has QF points to defend. He was beaten by Rafa last year.
