Why does he always have so many problems serving sets/matches out?

Re: §_§_§_The Season 2008 Down Under_§_§_§

And Richie's Roller Coaster Ride begins....

Only caught a few peeks at the scoreboard but from the stats it looked like he came out really hot and then did his famous fizzle out. To anyone who saw it, WHAT HAPPENED?

How much was that 06 Davis Cup match in his mind? -- he needs a quick talk with Noah, the head doctor.

At least he won't be worn out for AO and good thing he played doubles so he got a little more match practice in.

Still love ya Richie, but

Richard is very frustrating, perhaps one of the most frustrating on tour. He works his butt off to get to the top ten, does reasonably well in the TMC, and then loses to Tursonav. He has a massive sheer amount of natural talent, but seems unable to access it for long periods of time.

No matter, it's just the biginning, and no image to know what happened. AO will give us the tone of the season.

Oh well, Turs was always gonna be dangerous. We'll just have to bite our nails anxiously awaiting the AO draw now.

Re: §_§_§_The Season 2008 Down Under_§_§_§

Hello fellow Gasquet fans. Happy New Year to you all. Rather disappointed and frustrated to have to wake up to the news that he lost his second round match.

From what I read on an AFP website, Richie is having difficulty with the heavy tennis balls that will be used in the AO. He claims he is at a disadvantage hitting heavy balls on a plexicushion hardcourt. He said he would have to adjust in practice to the heavier Wilson balls. He also said that he would try to play more aggressive at the AO than he did today.

The good news is that he is pain free for the AO.

Wishing him all the best for next week. Can't wait to see the draw.

Allez Richie!!

This asks us another question: Has Gasquet really improved his game since that Davis Cup match against Tursunov??
I mean,he was probably even better in 2006 than in 2007(except he had less problems with the injuries and less ridiculously hard draws in the GS in 2007 than in 2006,which widely explains why he did make the TMC in 2007 and not in 2006)
I know it's his first tournament of the year but personnally ,i find this loss very worrying, especially in the way he lost (almost no break points during the whole match).
He is not to the point where he can take tournaments like Sydney as a preparation for the GSs........i mean, the best tournament he has won in his career so far is probably not even worth this Sydney's tournament.

Quote:
Someone should tell him that he is now the number 8 in the world and that Tursunov and Andreev were not even in the top 30..........or perhaps(and most certainly) he already knows that but he is just trying to find excuses

He can practice volley in doubles though..

We shouldn't expect a big change or something like that from him..
He will never change, I just hope he can improve gradually.. which at least he's been doing.

Did you follow his off -season? There were very few reports, but what was reported was the fact that it was hampered by a rather long (dates about the actual length differ) interruption to cure a knee injury which has been troubling him since Madrid. So his preparation is delayed and it seems to show. Unfortunately I have not seen his matches, so it is very hard to say where his form really is.

I did not expect a flying start from Richard in 2008 - a year where he has a lot to gain, particularly in the masters series events where he has only a QF (Monte Carlo) and a SF (Bercy) to defend.

Besides, preparing well for a GS does not necessarily involve winning the tourneys leading up to it. otherwise Lleyton Hewitt would have won the Aussie OPen already.

And finally, I don't care what he utters in post-match interviews in English, they are just "theatre".
