I could not watch it. Stats are looking good, but please give us an idea how it went. A lapse in the third set?

In the first two sets Richard was very good. He hit some bh winners and one incredible cross court volley. Then in the third he flailed some shots and his opponent started hitting more winners. After the third set Star Sports stopped showing the match so I don't know what happened after.

Wimbledon Upsets:
Safin def. Djokovic 6-4, 7-6, 6-2
Schuettler def. Blake 6-3, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

Tipsarevic def. Roddick 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 7-6
Dancevic def. Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
Zheng def. Ivanovic 6-1, 6-4
Tanasugarn def. Jankovic 6-3, 6-2
Radwanska def. Kuznetsova 6-4, 1-6, 7-5

Re: §_§_§_The Season 2008 Down Under_§_§_§

at least he won, I'm not happy about the 3rd set though, it looks like it was a lapse of concentration considering how easily he won the other sets! but I'm happy he's through, 1st rounds are never easy.

Happy for Richie.

Opening rounds are always tricky for him.

Re: §_§_§_The Season 2008 Down Under_§_§_§

I watched all the match and its quite a good match.
Great first 2 sets, many winners, managed to do everything he wanted, seemed like a demonstration.
Then the australian won his first game in the third, since that he started to play more free, better serve, handle the crosscourt battle, less UES and richard became more defensive, hit more UES and lost his serve at 2-3 in the third.
Then in the fourth(the first game was a little bit hesitant)but was more solid, did the job,to break him at 2-1(opponent DF though)
well its a first match, never easy, even against a much lower player, not really powerful.
Lopez will be more tough,he will have to be really agressive and serve as well than i this first round with many aces(14 no?)
Allez richard and congrats.

PS: great win for jo,so happy for him hahahaha when I think about GM quarter finale pronostics, they put for 90% ,Murray
jo you rock

GASQUET

Tsonga - Simon - Monfils - Mathieu - Chardy - Baghdatis
Mannarino - Safin - Santoro - Gulbis- Nishikori

Well done Richard... is about all I can think to say. My sides are still splitting from Murray's loss*.

(*I do feel bad for him. The bandwagoning British press who hyped him to the nth will be having a field day at his expense. )

I did root for Murray as well. But from what I watched him, he was really defensive, which reminded me of Gasquet's defensive play.
I think Gasquet and Murray have in common (both talent and mentality), but definitely Murray has been more hyped thesesdays.

I agree, they share a lot of things in common (you could also add their fitness problems......both still seem to be like little boys physically sometimes).
My personnal opinion(and dream to be fair) is that those 2 will dominate the tour when Federer will have declined........they are the 2 most talented youngsters in my opinion.

Murray today did not lose due to his fitness or lack of it. Jo-Wilfried just stormed over him.

That may be true, but frankly: I could not care less.
