Well I wouldn't exactly call his one match in Madrid, playing a tournament. But if by some miracle he does make it to Shanghai, he'll probably be pretty worn out because that would mean he went very far in Lyon and Paris.
Just hope he finishes the season on a very positive note, enjoys playing the last two tournaments and does not get injured - then all is possible...
Practically only one spot is left. But I think it will be so much competitve. None of players who are capable of taking the spot couldn't hold their nerve. Gonzalez was lucky to play first of the day. So we never know.
Richard defeats C. Rochus 7-6 6-3, hitting 23 aces.
Nevertheless, the beginning was tough. Rochus did not play poorly and Richard was tense. Rochus gifted him the TB with a DF. More aggression by Richard in the second set, he had many break chances at 2-2, but did not convert them. But instead of getting frustrated, he won his own serve easily and was inspired in Rochus' next service game, breaking him to love, hitting some glorious BH winners on the way. The rest was a formality, with Richard breaking Rochus once more.
i have not watched his play since wimbledon but he played much worse than my expectation and to be honest, i thought rochus's game was more beautiful than richard's in the first set
I didn't watch the match, but seemed tighter than I had expected.
He will face Tsonga, hopefully Tsonga beats himself as usual. If Tsonga gets his head together, I kind of expect that Richie will be really struggling.
gasuqet was good i thought...And rochus was playing very good too..
The best sign is that gasquet is close to the base-line while recieving and on the 2nd serves he comes in and attacks....Really good stuff...Allez....beat Baby-ali..
Whew! Sounds like the first set was a winning ugly sort of set - but good thing is he won when not playing well. Hopefully he will feel a little more relaxed after a tense first set and play a good match against Tsonga (he'll need to). ALLEZ RICHIE!!

Yes... he has been very lucky Rocus offered him a df at crucial time to give him a set point. I don't know what would have happened without this gift.
Anyway, he played better in the second from 2-2 to the end. Hopefully, Richard will be fit and move well tomorrow. The good thing is his serve was here today.
Well done to Richie. From what I understand was not pretty in first set. According to statistics, Richie served 23 Aces in the match. With A-Rod out (thanks to the Magician), the draw looks attractive. Good luck Richie. Please go all the way ... please.
Not the most impressive opening round, but hopefully he can find form as the week goes on. Tomorrow's match against Tsonga won't be easy though, good luck Richard!
Nice, solid win against Rochus today!
Tsonga is going to be tough, but I do hope Richard can win
