Arthurs claims opening ATP title
Australian veteran Wayne Arthurs captured his first career ATP singles title with victory in Scottsdale.
The 33-year-old proved too strong for third seed Mario Ancic of Croatia winning 7-5 6-3.
Ancic, who had beaten second seed and defending champion Vincent Spadea of the United States in the last four, was unable to get the better of Arthurs.
Arthurs, the second oldest player on the ATP Tour, had only reached one previous final in 2002 in Nottingham.
