Aussie Summer 2017

Starting with Brisbane and Happy Valley Challenger, the Aussie Summer will start in the first week of Januray.

In Brisbane: Millman (WC) into the MD, but is ALT #4 too, Thompson ALT #3 / Tomic already in MD.

Re: Aussie Summer 2017

Not sure where to post this, but here seems pretty good. Can we talk about 7's advertising campaign for the 2017 Summer of Tennis? The Rebels? I'm sorry? Our players look bad enough without this sort of campaign behind them heading into their most important part of the year. So many problems besides that though...

- Groth is included Stosur didn't even feature. It's Tomic, Kyrgios, Groth and Gavrilova. Tennis Australia has it's hands ALL OVER THIS!

- Lack of women. The initial ad had, in order: Federer, Serena, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka, then Kyrgios, Tomic, Gavrilova, and Groth THEY HAVE SINCE ADDED KERBER! But what were they thinking? I understand the BIG 4. But Kerber should have been there instead of Wawrinka, and they could add someone like Radwanska or Wozniacki/Ivanovic. Not only that, but Stosur should have replaced Groth. I'm no SJW, but this is sexism - bottom dollar, cut and dry.

It's just annoying. Aesthetically the ad looks great and exciting, but no Stosur and including Groth is a HUGE mistake. DUMB.

If I was Stosur I'd be pissed. Part of the career is marketability and branding, and this is the only market she's relevant in. Why do they push Groth so much in this way?

Re: Aussie Summer 2017

I do agree that after the year he's had, including Groth as a remotely relevant threat is silly - I think the issue with Stosur is that she has rarely performed well in Melbourne, so it's not as though they have a large archive of triumphant highlights to use!

As for the women - well, other than Serena and Angie, who else could you really use? It's not as though Aga and Simona are household images, Pliskova is still somewhat unknown here, there's still no Maria...maybe Cibulkova as the new Top 5 entrant and former finalist?

With Millman's participation in the summer in doubt, who else are we tipping to be given WCs into Brisbane and Sydney? Thompson for the latter yes. Smith for Brisbane probably, after the wildcard playoff. Jasika should get one as preparation for the AO appearance. Groth will bob up somewhere, no doubt. Any other suggestions?

The hip is improving Aaron and he told me last night he is up to a 50/50 chance of playing. Huge improvements over the last couple of days so fingers and toes crossed.

No surprise - Brisbane WC for Thompson and Millman:

"Thompson joins fellow Australian players Bernard Tomic (QLD) and John Millman (QLD) in the main draw..."
