Kyrgios should be looking forward to these events. He skipped them completely last year, meaning that any wins from now on will only serve to boost his ranking (hopefully to a seeding at the AO to avoid another R1 Murray fiasco!).
He did play KL, but lost in r1 to Marinko. I reckon its definitely a positive that hes finally playing a proper schedule. If he draws Murray again...
Groth also has opportunities here to really press for the Top 50, because he only has 35 Shanghai points to defend until the ATP season closes (as well as 48 points from the Knoxville Challenger in November).
Agreed, top 50 should be Groth's main aim right now. He looks as though he'll be doing a lot of ATP Qualifying... Horribly high cut offs, if Groth cant make a 250 in Valencia that's atrocious. I think hell qualify anyway with his serve.
Interesting strategy from JP Smith to do the European indoor Challengers in lieu of the Asian swing - hopefully it pays off in terms of results to get him into that Top 100.
Atm hes playing the American ones... todays match was awful there was no ball boys and no linesmen. At least he got the job done, and didn't look bothered at all.
Great to see John Millman's name popping up regularly in ATP main draws at last. Of course, unless he gets a few wins from this, it won't last as he still needs another 125 points or so before the end of the year to stay in the Top 100...
Yes, and Kohlschreiber in Metz... I think at least just vulture one CH in Asia. Top 100 would be the aim, he's up around the 70 mark but could drop dangerously soon...
The Aussie Challengers, compressed though they are, will be interesting viewing. Thompson, Saville and Jasika are the ones who really need the platform to boost their AO WC credentials - but Smith, Millman and Ebden may also have their eye on a big seeding and lots of points to stake their MD claims also.
I wonder if Jasika gets a WC to Kuala Lumpur? Anyway, he has the boost over Thompson and Saville, who are both young but haven't really improved as fast as we would have hoped. Omar is still with a chance, and we can let Thompson do the WC Playoff stuff
Smith and Millman and Ebden WC certainties if they don't get in directly. It would be nice if at least 2 of them did, so some of the guys below get a chance... I wonder what Marinko thinks? QWC?
