I guess it would make sense in some ways. Both nations are doing fairly poorly when compared with their illustrious pasts so they're trying to help each other out in the rankings? I wonder what else they could do to help each other though, other than exchange info about youth programs etc

There is also a deal with the USTA and French federation but that's just for the slams.. it must kind of suck if you're not from those countries but it does make sense. It's also interesting that none of the slam nations have had a slam winner since 03, but that's all off-topic.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Pete will be playing the Sth American events after the Aus Open, then back to the challengers.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Expected, hopefully he can qualify for most of the Latin swing and then bump that ranking back up in the challengers. That's just how the cycle goes for Pete, if he doesn't get back into the top 100 at years end he'll probably call it a day.

He will be travelling with his mate Nettle during these events. The qualies will be tough at these Latin American events, but the best thing for him.

Just hope TA do the right thing.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

I am hoping this year will be different to 2008 as he got to the final and put in some decent performances in the latter rounds. But then there's Tomic, Gooch and Ball....

I wouldn't mind seeing Gooch get one but Ball cannot be awarded one given his recent form. A run through qualifying would be better for him anyway.

And Millman and Ebden are on the fringes as well.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

A lot depends on the SA swing. If he can qaulify for a few events there and then get a few wins to get his ranking up then things are looking great for the season and a French Open appearance.. otherwise he'll need to start winning challengers to get back into the top 100. As has been said already, if he finishes outside the top 100 then he probably won't be around for 2012.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Great he got the well deserved wildcard! He has surely earned it with his efforts, for Australia, and grinding on the tour. Glad that TA took these things into account and did the right thing.

I was pretty shocked he chose to play on HC after the Commonwealth Games instead of heading immediately to clay. Did he do that because of the AO playoff? I thought that was a nice opportunity for points.

But, his schedule heading into 2011 is now much more clear with he receiving a WC. Now he can truly focus on preparing himself for a great run at the beginning of the season in Australia and also not have the potential disappointment of failing to qualify for the AO. Golden Swing qualifying will be very tough, but it's for the best.

After that I'm assuming he'll be heading to play the African events. Hope he does well, wish him the best.

No, he used the American events as a training load and also to hang out with some fellow Aussies.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

great news. Hopefully he gets an easier draw this time around. Didn't expect him to receive one this early on and it's good to see his age hasn't been a huge issue. Perhaps a change in their wildcard policy with Looch receiving one here and Millman receiving the first Brisbane wildcard ahead of Tomic and Kubler.

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Great news! It made my day and it's well deserved by Pete.

Hopefully he can get a kinder draw this year and and eventually qualify for RG again. He has wins at the AO and Wimbledon so it's the only thing missing for a guy who has picked up so many points on clay and seems to relish playing the best of 5 format. It won't be easy but this is a great boost and I'm sure he'll feel more confident going into 2011 after receiving the wildcard so early.
