Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Bit of a farce this Men's Wild Card play-off final. Looch is the No.2 ranked Oz player and MM is No.3 ranked player. No way either should not get a Wild Card irrespective of the finals result - based on ranking, performance this year, duty for Australia in the DC and Commonwealth Games. TA have no justification to give it to any other players above these two players.

Just went down then, 6-4 in the 5th. Lets see if TA continue to be clowns...

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Damn... He really needed to win that one. It would be a disgrace not to see Pete at the AO this year. We know Matosevic and Tomic are locks for a WC... but who else? With injury clouds on the likes of Johnny Millman and Ebden... will they be rewarded? John had a poor performance in the playoff but there's still a few tournaments to prove his worth... what about Ball? Another guy with a poor playoff performance... young Kubler got one last year but I don't think he is really worthy of a WC, we all know what TA are like with the youth policy though.. it's all up in the air for me... I just hope TA makes the right decision.

Absolutely he has a cast iron case to get a WC, he stepped up and played the Comm Games. Marinko deserves a WC, plus the golden child Tomic will get one, lets see TA prove you wrong.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Tough loss, from 4-1 to 4-6, ouch.

Although I'd like it, I don't know if he deserves a WC. This playoff should be won to get one for sure, and he didn't do it. And TA would be right to prefer a younger player over a 31-year old guy.

But I hope he at least gets a WC to Brisbane. And then probably AO qualis. He has a decent shot at qualifying if he plays it.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Damn. As said by everyone else it probably would have been better for him to win it as Marinko probably would have got one anyway. Looch just needs to make sure he comes out and starts 2011 in good from with strong showings in Brisbane and Sydney. He will probably miss out on a wildcard to Brisbane but they didn't get a great qualies list last year so if he is playing decent he should be able to qualify assuming he doesn't get the rough end of the draw. He might struggle to get one in Sydney with Tomic, Matosevic and Guccione being the likely candidates but if any of them withdraw or Tomic gets punished then Luczak would be the likely replacement I would imagine. If he could put in two strong showings which he has done many times before then TA will have no option but to give him one even if he is 31.

Good try, Pete. I'm extremely surprised he lost while being ahead and in the 5th set, but he gave his all, that's all you can ask. Hopefully Pete can make his claim in getting a WC by putting a good performance in Brisbane, but I think it's going to be tough for him to get one. Hopefully loyalty wins out, because Pete has been nothing but loyal for the Aussies. I'm sure he'll use this loss as fuel heading into the 2011 season.

Pete has virtually no chance for Sydney, two of the three wildcards for the main draw have been announced. Juan Martin Del Potro and James Ward have received them, this means one spot and they won't pick Luczak over Tomic or Matosevic. Brisbane likes to push youth and Queenslanders, you have Tomic (virtual certainty), Millman (had a great 2010), Kubler (made huge strides in 2010) and then you have the likes of Matosevic and Ball. Luczak would be extremely lucky to get a WC into Brisbane too.

The Australian Open is probably his best chance to receive a WC, they have shunned Looch before but I think they may give him a chance this year because of his performance in the playoffs. Either way he needs to get over and play some Euro clay challegers and get his ranking back up.

The only explanation I can think of is a deal with the LTA which guarantees an Australian a Queens wildcard? If that's not the case.. bribery? Kidding, I like Ward but it must be a deal between the organisations..

Completely forgot about Del Potro and thanks for the info about Ward. Has to a recirpocal arrangeent but one has to wonder why they are doing it? There doesn't really seem to be any notable benefits for ether side unless this is just one agreement of many between TA and LTA.
