Pete really should've lost this match, I watched the whole second and third set and he was seriously playing that bad. Fortunately for Pete Peya only lift his game in patches and for the rest of the match Pete's under-achieving performance was good enough. When he was down 4-2 in the second I thought it was over but then he won 4 of the last 5 games in the second. The third he got broken at 4-4 and saved at least one match point (probably saved more).

Winning a match like this has its positives and negatives, Yes Pete is in the next round but there is no way if he plays like that next match that he will get through. Unseeded Victor Crivoi next up for Pete which is arguably an easier match but Pete must step it up or he will lose. Possible semifinal match against Dustin Brown, I would expect Pete to lose that one.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Fair summary of the match, once Peter was able to get to Peya's forehand then he could do something. Just got to take the win anyway possible.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Pete lost to Trevisan in the 1st round of Trani, now has to prepare for the US Open.

Looks like South America might have to be on the agenda.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

He is in pretty bad shape, totally lost his mojo from earlier. Hope he improves in the last few months.

Peter seems to be in free fall at the moment but at least he has gained entry to the US Open

Let's hope for a decent draw in the US Open. Looch deserves another good one after the Oz and French Open draws.

Last week of the Bundesliga and Pete should be playing as they are playing the top team.

Then off to the States.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

With three withdrawls Pete has gained direct entry into New Haven next week. After that it is main draw US open, then his schedule is up in the air. I would say it's back to the European/South American clay challengers for Pete following the Davis Cup tie in Cairns. I really hope Pete gets his ranking back inside the top 100 before the years end.

He needs to gain around 92 points and also has 70 points to defend so 162 points before the years end which Pete is definitely capable of which he has shown in the past. One challenger title for Pete between now and October and he'll be well on his way.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

162 is doable, about 2-3 good events worth, hopefully Pete just starts playing better, the ranking will take care of itself.

Peter plays Leo Mayer in the first round of New Haven. Good luck to him, it's a winnable match.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

We all know finishing in the top 100 won't be easy. He wins matches, then his ranking will be fine.

He is playing the Comm Games which isn't a smart move.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

I noticed that, and no, it isn't smart, and is totally unnecessary, but he likes playing for Australia, and I guess it will help him get in a good frame of mind. But with Davis Cup and these Commonwealth games, he has 2 less weeks of competition compared to his opponents, meaning he is going to have to play extra well to make the top 100. Like you said, he wins, he's in, simple as that. Pete has been in this situation before, he knows what he needs to do.

Got a win over Mayer 6-3, 7-6. Faces Stakhovtsky in the last 32.

Good win over big Leo and Stakhovsky will be a good challenge for him.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".
