Marcos Daniel is a wildcard entry he is currently ranked 108 in the world and is from Brazil. The tournament is also in Brazil which means Pete is playing on centre court. Pete just won the first set 7-5.

Pete won 7-5 6-4! he now plays a qualifier in the second round who is ranked 154 in the world. Very capable of Pete making the quarters here.

Any of you guys know how the match went or were you guys just following livescore as well?
I'm also guessing he didn't play here last year and so has no points to defend (= ranking rise) ?

Yeah, Pete doesn't have much points to defend until the end of March, he has 55 points to defend then. If Pete's able to make semis here (75 points) or quarters and second round (55 points) next week in Buenos Aires then he will be fine for the end of March. But then in April he has 83 more points to defend! If Pete is able to stay in the top 100 by the time Wimbledon comes around then he will be fine. Between the end of April and to the end of July he has over 200 points to defend.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Cool, thanks Matchu. Hopefully another career high ranking for Pete in 08 anyway! Hoping for top 50 finish if he can maintain points from April to July, obviously a win at another slam or masters would be awesome and a huge help rankings-wise.

The draw as opened upslightly for Luczak. He is up against Eduardo Schwank (q) in the second round.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

True he is up against a Qualifier but Schwank beat Igor Andreev fairly easy, so it'll be tough second round match for Luczak, But let's keep our finegrs crossed cause he sure has an awaful amount of points to defend over the spring and early summer.

Re: The "Peter Luczak" Cheering Thread!

Schwank doesn't move that well, but hits the ball quite hard.

Yes, it's a big chance for Peter, but his best ever ATP performance was at this venue, so just hope he takes it,

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".
