2014 Australian Open Playoff

Well they took their time, but TA have finally made an announcement regarding the field of the 2014 Aussie Open Wildcard Playoff. The players confirmed in this article are:

John-Patrick Smith
Matt Reid
Greg Jones
Ben Mitchell
Jordan Thompson
Alex Bolt
Andrew Whittington
Dane Propoggia
Luke Saville
Gavin Van Peperzeel
Blake Mott

You can also include Harry Bourchier or Bradley Mousley, depending on who wins the 18's.

Kyrgios has been confirmed as a late withdrawl, due to a nagging elbow injury (confirmed on Twitter).

The article in question can be found at: http://www.tennis.com.au/news/2013/1...or-ao-play-off

A notable absentee apart from Nick and Thanassi is Sam Groth. I really hope he gets a wild card as he deserves it a lot.

Re: 2014 Australian Open Playoff

Agreed, he definitely deserves one. The only problem is that TA might not give him one, because of his attitude. However, hopefully that won't be the case.

Duckworth hasn't entered either. Very strange, but he will probably get one anyway.

Was also hoping that Guccione would enter, but not surprised...

Re: 2014 Australian Open Playoff

Ducky, Kokk and Kyrgios are all getting wildcards anyway so no surprise to see them absent here. One of the more open playoffs in recent memory... I'm hoping Jones can win this as time is running out for him to play in a slam main draw and TA are never going to give him any wildcards again... Not they did much in the first place..

Jones already got a wild card in 2012 and he was up two sets to love against Dolgopolov. I hope Reid wins it.

Groth has chosen to instead focus on his off-season and to get some good solid training. Good decision I think, because it would be blatantly rigged if he wasn't given a wildcard anyway.

Re: 2014 Australian Open Playoff

Brad Mousley wins his way into the Playoff by capturing the 18&U Australian Championships, defeating Harry Bourchier 6-3 7-5. Congrats Brad and best of luck.

Re: 2014 Australian Open Playoff

Draw released, it is:

(1)John-Patrick Smith vs Marc Polmans
Gavin Van Peperzeel vs (7)Dane Propoggia

(4)Jordan Thompson vs Blake Mott
Oliver Anderson vs (5)Alex Bolt

(6)Andrew Whittington vs Max Purcell
Harry Bourchier vs (3)Ben Mitchell

(8)Luke Saville vs Brad Mousley
Akira Santillan vs (2)Matt Reid

Greg Jones has obviously withdrawn.

(This was released via a Twitter pic, and Whittington & Reid's opponents were unclear. So I took an educated guess)

Agree 100%. Duckworth (??), Groth (training), Kyrgios (injury), Millman (injury), Jones (??), Feeney (??), Kubler (long-term knee issues), Guccione (injury), Kokkinakis (training) all missing. Little bit disappointing.

^I forgot to add Barton (injury)

Re: 2014 Australian Open Playoff

Yeah this is definitely the weakest line up in a long time. Hopefully Reid can win it now after Jones' withdrawal.
