Haas has pulled out, replaced by Garcia-Lopez. Gooch will be in next if someone else pulls out. C'mon Gooch, kick someone in the kneecap!

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Chris should be o.k I reckon. He is playing very inconsistently at the moment. The lost to Evans was shocking the win over Gonzales awesome.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Davis Cup next week in Townsville, Australia, indoor hard against a poor Thailand.

Looks like he isn't in a hurry to play on clay, not playing in the weeks after I think.

Edit: The earliest entry I can find is Casablanca on 18 May.

Yeah, i haven't seen him on a list for a few weeks there, don't know what he's thinking, could play a couple of ATP clay events with chris' ranking.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Guccione beats Udomchoke 6-7(3) 7-6(6) 4-6 7-6(6) 7-5 and saved three match points in the fourth tie break. Impressive come from behind victory by the Gooch and should give him a lot of confidence. This should mean Australia win with the Gooch likely to play Doubles with Paul Hanley tommorow. Hes taking a few weeks off after the davis cup tie, not sure exactly why but could be another fitness training block like december last year. No points to defend until June on Grass, After June/July where he has 109 points to defend he has literally no points to defend until October. Even if the Gooch doesnt win any matches between now and October he is still guarunteed to be around the 100 mark which almost guaruntees entry into most ATP events. I expect the Gooch to go all out and play lots of ATP tournaments throughout the year and I believe he will be in the top 35 at the end of September.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Is Guccione taking part in the clay season leading up to FO?

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Anyone know the exact reasoning for the month's break, i asssume he is gunning for a big grass court season. he's only playing casbalanca and RG as far as clay events go.

He is not on a break per say, he is in Canberra at the AIS training on the newly built clay courts preparing for Casa and RG. He will probably play Queens and Nottingham after the French and then back to Wimbledon. I think the US series is his big chance to do really really well. If the Gooch can stay in the top 50 on the ATP race Australia will probably qualify for the World team Cup and we may be back in the world Group of Davis Cup, and on top of all of that Todd Reid's back!

A little off topic but all Aussie.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

bit pointless to train on clay if you're only playing 2 tournaments, i understand it though, bigger chances will come during the grass court season and during the us hard court season providing he works hard enough.

Just reading these old messages, you cant win anything with 57% first serve percentage?? What? Thats actually an average amount to get in, especially a big serve like his, for a big server getting over 55% should be enough to win a lot of points on serve

Um, thanks for that dose of nostalgia. Fact is, 57% of first serves into play against a returner of Canas' quality is not good. He gave Canas 14 breakpoints and was broken 4 times. Are you saying he would've been happy with his serving performance?

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

I was just having a look at the scoreboard in the match against Schuettler then looked up his recent results and I don't understand the long break either.

I agree with the_natural that a 57% first serve percentage is good and if it's not good enough to win, it's more to do with the quality of the serve in terms of placement and variety, other parts of his game like maybe poor follow-up volleys and good returning from the opponent (likely a combination of all things).

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Speaking of first serve percentages, he has gotten 71% first serves in against Schuettler and is on the verge of being broken for the third time. Obviously he can't be going for his first serves that much.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

absolute choke fest this second set, chris a break down 3-2, got it back to 5-3, lost his service game and then had 2 set points on rainer's serve and is now at 5-5, can see him losing a tiebreaker now.
