Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Although Chris was not able to win a match at Newport he will move to about 85 at the start of next week. Next week he is playing in LA and has Marat Safin first round, what a match! Gooch could win if he serves well and Marat has a bit of a breakdown.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Gucc broke early in the first, but got broken back and lost the first 6 3. He just broke Safin at 3 2 and then got broken straight away, its now 4 3 Gucc on serve 2nd set

Yet again he loses a tight match.

At the end of the year he's going to be looking back at this year and just think what could of been.

Chris just lost the semi of the $75,000 Challenger in Spain to Verdasco (41) 5-7 4-6 (40 points) Great Effort! Alan Jones has made the final on the other side. Brilliant

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

I don't really understand why Gooch was playing on clay in Italy this week. He seems to be sticking a pin in the globe and playing wherever it ends up. To go from hardcourt in the US to hardcourts in Spain, then clay in Italy, then back to the states seems really pointless...and explains why he lost to a journeyman dirtballer this week. Surely it would have made more sense to stay on the hard stuff in the states/canada...even if he didn't want to play qualies for the big events, there are plenty of challengers at this time of year

agreed, this is what his schdule has been since Wimbledon

Newport (Grass)
Los Angeles (Hard)
Austria (Clay)
Spain (Hard)
Italy (Clay)

How in the hell is he meant to get settled on a surface with a schdeule like that? Espically jumping from europe to america back to europe in a couple of weeks. Just plain stupid.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

He beat veteran doubles specialist Cermak in the first round qualifying in New Haven in a tight match, then lost in the evening to talented Kevin Anderson. Not a good result, although the morning match could have tired him.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Its sad that hes losing a lot of close ones but as he keeps improving i think we will find hes on the winning side of a lot of matches next year. Its just like the footy, hes still developing and maybe trying to improve his clay form to get more of an all round game... Its seems smart that while hes young he should try to improve on all surfaces to better his game for the future ... we gotta remember hes still young

'08 should be a big year for Gucc

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

True...Chris is going to follow a similar path to Wayne Arthurs and others with a similar game and won't really get going til his mid 20s. I just hope he has the mental strength to stay with it until he makes the breakthrough. In fact, Wayne-o is someone I'd like to see helping Chris at some point, especially with his serve. Chris has got a huge delivery but it's not a devestating weapon yet...his ball toss can be a bit low and his motion too quick...Arthurs - one of the greatest servers of the past 20 years - had the perfect action and rarely went for pure pace like Chris often does...he could be a perfect mentor on how to get the most from your serve without trying too hard.

Re: ---Chris Guccione Cheering Thread---

Well, he's going to have quite a bit of points to defend from the South American challengers he won last year in a couple of months, then there is there all those Adeliade points he has to defend, unless he decides to play awesoem tennis he has really stuffed his chance for a much higher ranking.
