lol that was a strange response. Oh well Carsten pulled out, he has a history of pulling out of events so it isn't that suprising. He'll be in Aus soon then head back to the US for challengers. I'm suprised that given how high his ranking is that he is persistant to not play the Euro Grand Slams.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Does anyone know if he is going to play RG and Wimbledon, also he is leading over Sugita 6-3 6-4 4-3 great match so far, he has only got 3 aces so far usually gets more but guess it is on clay.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Yes Carsten is going to play RG and Wimbledon qualies. He is going to head back to the US this coming week to play a challenger and then he will head to Europe the following week to play RG qualies followed by him playing on the Grass ATP event in Queens and then Wimbledon qualies.

I'm fairly sure he'll then head to the US again to play in the Grass court event in Newport because he will more than likely get Direct entry into that. Then it's just US Hardcourt events from then onwards for Carsten. Hopefully he breaks into the top 100 before he has to defend his runner up showing in LA later this year.

Can't see why he wouldn't get the wildcard now for the French unless Lindahl wins Zagreb.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

I think he won't have to play Qualies as he should be a certainty to get a WC unless there is a huge surprise in Zagreb.

He is 47th Alt in Nice so maybe we will see him in Nice Qualies (he has a chance of scraping into the Qualies) if Tennis Australia award him a wildcard before then.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

It is a toss up between Ball and Lindahl. But if Lindahl made a final or won the tourney is Zagreb he would most probably get it because of his year so far. If Lindahl dosent get the wildcard i couldn't see him qualifying but Ball could easily being a definate tope 16 seed, good luck to Ball and all the aussies at the french.

One more thing do Australia get a qualies wildcard my guess is that we dont only at wimbledon because we dont get main draw.

Unfortunately Australia don't get wildcards into French Open Qualies or Wimbledon Main Draw/Qualies. Tomic got a Qualies Wildcard last year because he was an Aussie with huge potential and the wildcard would have went to a British player who the LTA( or whoever makes the decision) thought wouldn't have done much (after the draw Tomic ended up getting they probably regretted that decision). And IMG probably had something to do with it as well (Dent received a wildcard as well although he had put in some decent performances before).

AUSTRALIA'S emerging Davis Cup player Carsten Ball is set to be awarded Tennis Australia's discretionary wildcard into the French Open men's singles, starting Sunday week.

Ball is thought to have done enough on the basis of his two Davis Cup wins against Japanese players in Australia's 5-0 win on a temporary claycourt at Pat Rafter Arena, which wrapped up yesterday.

Ball, ranked No. 115, will miss direct entry into the claycourt grand slam at Roland Garros by about eight ranking places.

After playing a US Challenger tournament on hardcourts this week, Ball has entered to play French Open qualifying next week.

The selection of California-raised Ball, 22, would be in line with many of TA's previous French and US Open wildcard allocations.

TA last year rewarded Queenslander Bernard Tomic with a French Open wildcard. Tomic has played two Challenger tournaments, one Futures event and the Monte Carlo Masters this season, posting one main-draw win against world No. 802 Holger Fischer.

"Carsten is capable of a lot better than what his ranking is," Hewitt said yesterday.

"He's had some injuries now and then and hasn't been able to put together a big run. He feels more comfortable on American hardcourts, but his serve is still big enough to serve through a claycourt."

Ball remained unbeaten in three Davis Cup singles matches and three doubles rubbers by seeing off Tatsuma Ito 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) in the dead fifth rubber.

"I haven't played much on clay, but my movement on clay is good and I have an idea what to do," Ball said.

Hewitt, ranked No. 29, pulled out of this week's Madrid Masters, risking his hold on one of the French Open's 32 seedings to make sure Australia reached September's playoffs for qualification to the 2011 Davis Cup world group.

"It would be nice to sneak into the seedings. I'm defending a third round there (from 2010)," Hewitt said.

"Having clay for this tie helps my body . . . to not be changing surfaces back and forth. I was a little stiff from the last couple of days when I woke up, but I felt pretty good after the first few games."

Baker (USA) - Bedene (SLO) - Bellucci (BRA) - Berta (SWE) - Cuevas (URU) - Domijan (USA) - Ebden (AUS) - Estrella (DOM) - Grigelis (LTU) - Guccione (AUS) - Heliovaara (FIN) - Kavcic (SLO) - King (BAH) - Kontinen (FIN) - Kubler (AUS) - Lajovic (SRB) - Matosevic (AUS) - McGee (IRE) - Millman (AUS) - Mitchell (AUS) - Nielsen (DEN) - Nieminen (FIN) - Paire (FRA) - Udomchoke (THA)

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Carsten has been given the TA wildcard into the French Open. I believe he is going to be a bit of a headache for some real good players. The way he won in the Davis Cup beating Sugita and Ito in straight sets. If he was to get a good draw with an unseeded player up in the first round, then he might be able to get a couple of wins. So good luck.

Re: It's nice to have you Carsten.

Congrats Carsten. As Lleyton said, he is much more capable than his ranking suggests, I think he can get a win or two here.
